Bush defends his immigration proposals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - President Bush sharply challenged critics of his stalled immigration-overhaul efforts on Thursday, suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States.

At a town-hall style meeting, Bush also rebuffed a question about whether he would consider pardoning two Border Patrol agents in prison for the cover-up of the shooting of a drug trafficker in Texas.

"No, I won't make you that promise," Bush told a woman who asked about a possible pardon. Many Republicans in Congress have said the men should not have been convicted and have criticized the federal U.S. attorney for even prosecuting the agents.

"I know it's an emotional issue but people need to look at the facts. These men were convicted by a jury of their peers after listening to the facts" as presented by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, said Bush. Bush called Sutton a friend.

Jorge W. refuses to listen to the American people. We don't want amnesty and certainly NOT to benefit his Chamber Of Commerce buddies. He should have learned something from the last few months. Apparently not and I'm very disappointed.

Just exactly what is it about - the deliberate criminal cover-up of the attempted murder of an unarmed suspect - that makes men wearing badges as Border Agents into heroes in your mind?

“These hate Bush threads are as bad as or worse than anything I’ve seen on DU.”

Did I miss something?

I’m sure I have read this thread from top to bottom a number of times and I have yet to see anyone saying they “hate Bush”.

Who’s hating Bush???

I don't hate Bush. I just am fed up with his arrogance and his refusal to respect the wishes of the American people on immigration. He dismisses his critics and doesn't want to find common ground with them. I respect the man but I just don't agree with him on amnesty. That doesn't make me a DU knee-jerk rabid Bush hater.

In the '04 campaign, immigration was barely mentioned...and all the Republicans stood by, thinking that he really wasn't all that pink on the issue, that it was just an election ploy.

Everyone kept telling me to campaign and vote for him because he WOULD do something after the election. You know, he simply couldn't take everything on after 9/11.

Now his robe-kissers say Bush always said the same thing and that we were supposed to know. After all, 9/11 changed nothing, right?

I’m not low, I have so many that I can’t find what I want anymore! Need to get rid of any that aren’t good ones.

Hmmm, James Bond doesn’t fit many categories, lol.

Who’s hating Bush???

The few remaining supporters don't like when people call him Jorge or Boosh (not saying you or anyone did, just guessing).. even though Bush's company name is Arbusto something or other.

Except on DU they call him a Nazi. Even the worst insults on FR have never gone that low. So don't compare us to the moonbats in the lunatic asylum over there.

You're joking right?

Bush is portrayed as a sort of Mexican Devil torturing border agents, portrayed as a Monkey , "curious George" called stupid, and having a serious "learning disability".... (as the Dems have characterized him since 2000)...and you don't consider any of that "hateful". LOL

Maybe not... people feel he prefers to serve Mexico's interests rather than enforce our immigration laws. There's not wrong with the laws on the books except our Chief Executive thinks its too hard to enforce them. He should try explaining that permissive attitude of his to Zina Linnik family. Au contraire, George, not all values stop at Rio Grande. We don't want dream stealers here who destroy the lives of legal immigrants and Americans by breaking our laws. Deport them now!

Yeah, that is out of control. They truly are blinded by hate and have been for so long now. I heard some caller on C-Span yesterday saying something about Hitler and Bush and I tuned him out. That’s insane.

The liberal love, I can just feel it... And the sad thing is - they don’t realize how much closer Bush is to the Clintons than the general public knows.

Such an intriguing mixture of a strawman argument with the fallacy of the complex question. I must have hit a nerve for you to react with a load like that.

In the spirit of your own post, what is about lying and slander that appeals to you? Is it your hobby, or are you afflicted with a compulsion that you can't control? I can see why you admire Sutton, you see your own reflection in him.
