Pretty even-handed for NPR.

I’d rather have Hunter than Fred but oh well. He beats Rudy McRomney.

Thompson let Clinton skate on the sale of satellite and missile technology to the Red Chinese. He's hoping we've forgotten about that after all these years.
I haven't.
And I won't be voting for him any time soon.

Marginally even handed. Notice how the first paragraph is somewhat tortured english trying to highlight the 'actor' part:
jump into the Republican presidential contest, as an actorthen this almost non-sequitur: But from the beginning, he has operated on a different stage. Thompson has acted in more than 30 films,
But .. well, not bad for NPR. At least the tortured english highlights what is being attempted.

If the Clinton-Chinagate thing is the best they can come up with on Thompson, the Dems are in big trouble.
The key to a Dem victory will be splitting the conservative vote, and hopefully provoking a third party idiot vote, like Perot.
Perot voters can claim ultimate responsibility for every result of the Clinton years.

“Some surveys show the Tennessee Republican in second or third place”
Oddly put, since most show him at least in a statistical tie for first place.
