The perfect storm :
In the 1960’s and 1970’s lots of hippies fled to safe areas to do drugs without the hassle of police enforcement.
These small towns are easy because they can get themselves elected county sherrif, etc. A small community of a few thousand can get swamped by a few druggies. Also criminals on the run love these towns to hide in. Crested Butte had a recent semi-famous case.
Federal and state drugs laws are not enforced. If the DEA shows up to investigate, leaks from the sheriff office will help the drug dealers flee to Mexico until the heat is gone.
Second step : This group is active in other areas like ‘affordable housing.’ This means the absentee taxpayers who pay sales taxes ( tourists ) do not vote. Thus very cheap housing, health care, ‘free’ buses, free..
Thanks George. I have always wondered about that. Crested Butte is a pit! First time I have been there in summer in a long time. The town definitely looks better with several feet of snow hiding the filth. There was a banner up advertising Tim Worth to be speaking on “Why the UN is our Invaluable Partner” or some such cr*p.
BTW you know all this how?
