State Budget Still Blocked; Arnold Pushes (RINO Governator Sides With Democrats Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 07/21/2007 | Evan Halper and Patrick McGreevey

Besieged Senate Republicans continued to block passage of a state budget Friday night even as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly sided with Democrats and urged GOP senators to give up the fight.

The deadlock in the Senate persisted despite the Assembly passing a budget on a bipartisan vote following an all-night session into Friday morning. The Assembly has since disbanded for a monthlong recess. GOP lawmakers complain that the Assembly spending plan does not cut deep enough and are holding out for more reductions.

On Friday night, Schwarzenegger, whose role in budget talks has largely been limited this year, stepped in to warn Senate Republicans that he will not support their demand to cut the state's operating deficit — $700 million under the budget plan passed by the Assembly on Friday — to zero.

"Bringing the operating deficit to zero this year would mean a cut to the education budget," he said. "The question now is whether we cut education funding, and I don't think that's what the people of California want. I will not cut education."

He said the Assembly plan is "a budget the people of California can be proud of."

I thought the budget was a done deal....they are all going to be panicking when unemployment rises next month...because of their job killing programs enacted the past five years.

Why does the CAGOP owe Arnold anything? He's a leftist who wants nothing to do with the conservatives in his own party! More than that, he's a Trojan Horse Schwarzenkennedy who has saddled the state with record spending and deficits as far as the eye can see. No wonder the MSM is gushing over him in admiration and blaming Republicans for insisting on common-sense spending cuts. California REALLY is the land for fruits, flakes and nuts.

Let's not forget his being an evangelist for the "global warming" AB73 folly which will cost Californians billions more. The bottom line is the Austrian is a socialist. He really believes in big government. He is anything but a conservative and by his own description, he isn't a partisan standing behind his own party's philosophy and platform. His being a Republican is for him, like it is for Michael Bloomberg, a marriage of convenience. He has no use for the CAGOP.

The Senate GOP should say NO and tell Arnold and the Democrats either the budget deficit is eliminated or California's government will be shut down. Its time to tear up the state's credit card.

Tell me the LAT doesn't have an agenda when they write a sentence like that. Democrats good, Republicans bad. To write otherwise wouldn't advance the liberal template. Namely, government is good.

You mustn't cut education spending. Arnold knows its "all for the children." How dare, how dare, the Senate GOP to insist the budget be balanced on the backs of schoolkids. Why, that's unconscionable!

Cutting education funding and cutting education are not the same thing.

Its a really surreal world where we're informed running a budget with a deficit is having a balanced budget! I'd like to understand how you can have a budget reserve when you have a deficit? Its all phony! DUH

Elect a blue collar foreign national, with the equivalent of a high school education, whose last legitimate profession was tank driving and you begin to get a glimmer of the reasoning.

LOL! A broken campaign promise - NO, make that two. We haven't heard much about "living within our means" and "budgeting like families do." The Governator has been more spendthrift than Gray Davis. He racked up record debts and presided over massive increases in state spending. And California can't afford budget cuts?

LOL LOL LOL!

Well, technically you could cut a few thousand Democratic Party operatives on the "education" payroll in Sacramento...but that might require accurately identifying them as such, and Democrat legislators woiuldn't care for that one bit. ;)
