First, I appreciate your taking the time to post these. Whatever I think of the individual videos, I recognize that campaigning in the future will depend more and more on having some kind of YouTube effort. Maybe these videos won't draw any votes. Maybe Mr. Hunter's campaign won't develop the support needed for him to be president. However, if those who like a candidate won't make an effort for him, then he certain cannot win.
Secondly, idiots who come here to attack you for campaigning for your candidate are doing nothing to help their own candidates. They insult us for supporting Mr. Hunter and then expect that we're going to drop everything to campaign for their candidate. My answer to them is first, "If I liked your candidate best, I'd be supporting him already. The more that you insult me, the less I'll feel inclined to help your candidate at any point."
Thirdly, the first video doesn't look like something that will have much appeal to the typical YouTube viewer. I suspect that older people might like the first video, but I don't think as many of them are going to be surfing YouTube looking for videos.
Finally, I liked your American is a Good Nation video very much. If you wanted to improve that video, I'd make a few suggestions. I hope that NordP is still reading so that maybe she can tell me whether those suggestions are likely to be effective. Instead of the cartoon flag and text stating about Mr. Hunter's positions, could you find some generally patriotic pictures and some pictures that would go with Mr. Hunter is saying. Pictures of the Statue of Liberty, the Iwo Jima Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial Wall, maybe the Lincoln Memorial, and any pictures of the flag would have more impact than the cartoon flag. Pictures of American soldiers helping people around the world would also have more impact. Part of why I pinged David Osborne to this thread is that he's in Iraq, has posted some nice pictures from there, and is a Duncan Hunter supporter. He might be able to let you use some exclusive or nearly exclusive pictures of his.
I disagree with those who criticize this video because the video doesn't go into specifics of Mr. Hunter's positions. With the right pictures, I think the recorded speech could be pretty powerful. The speech and images could stir patriotic feelings, and a good video that stirs those feelings would give Mr. Hunter positive name recognition among those who saw it.
In making these comments, I'm just saying some thoughts that came to my mind when I saw the video. I don't have the skill or equipment to do this stuff, and I applaud you for giving it a try. I wish I could do some of this stuff.
Thanks,
Bill
..this describes me perfectly
Using free software from here and there will never create a true, campaign worthy spot--leave that to the professionals.
Thanks for the comments...
I would still suggest showing some of the issues Duncan Hunter is famous for perhaps in a format of "Do you care about illegal aliens getting in-state tuition, while your next door neighbor's kid doesn't qualify?" Duncan Hunter was the one who co-sponsored _____, because HE cares enough to DO something about it. (granted this is only an example, not anything concrete--but notice how it gets your attention?)
You could create a series of these, "Does it bother you that__________? Duncan Hunter was the one who wrote ________, to _____, because HE cares enough to DO something about it!" ***Create three of these type sentences*** and then finish it by saying..."Duncan Hunter, you may not know his name....until you want to thank him."
