What bothers me is the political mileage the Administration's enemies, both foreign and domestic, are getting from a relatively low rate of casualties. In 1968, U.S. casualties were running 400-500/week, and that in turn was relatively light compared with what a less-populous America sustained during 1943 and 1944.

And that is during the Surge offensive when casualties should have risen. July was a very good month and AQ really got put on their heels.

Interesting graph. Why is it that the Democrats always complain that the Iraq war has lasted longer than WWII (BS argument to begin with), but fail to point out the the Vietnam War was twice as long as we’ve been in Iraq?

I have said this several times. After about the first year of the Iraqi theatre of the War on Terrorist, I did calculations for the Civil War, WWI, WWII and Viet Nam. Not only were the KIA rate much much much higher, they were out of much much much smaller populations.

And it is not the political mileage that bothers me. What bothers me are two things:

1. The so called conservative commentators falling so quickly for the beltway consensus and failing to point out that the KIA rate in Iraq is what the military has called light in all previous wars.

2. And far far far more important the implications that the US may well not have the will to defend itself if the public can not deal with this light level of KIAs.

Of course a huge difference between the WOT and WWII is that we were on the side of Joe Stalin in WWII so the American left was unquestioningly on board for the duration.

And speaking of Joe Stalin he is partly right that one death is a tragedy but thousands are just statistics, but the anti-American left has exploited the low KIA rate compared to population. In WWII one probably DARED NOT make the undermining comments made now because anywhere one spoke or on any steet you lived some mother, father, brother, sister, wife or child had lost a family member. The KIA rate in Iraq and the overall WOT is so low, that is not the case today so the Reid, Moore, etc underminers speak without much worry of having an offended relative in their audience.

This war is being lost in Washington and New York, not in Baghdad and Baquabah. The more success we have in Iraq due to Petraeus’ new strategy, the uglier it’s going to get back home.

Not if you hear the continual msm BS. And they are in full 24/7 lately downing the Iraq mission...it’s cause it’s going so well...it was different for NAM...no new media...today it’s different...we’ll win...and the rats and the left msm will be unable to stop it...

What date is that through? If its only through, say, the 15th, then it doesn’t mean much.

It is through today AND it is averaged by the days elapsed so far this month, so it is accurate.

In 1968, U.S. casualties were running 400-500/week

Its disgusting and very myopic...

If we don't get the job done now the next war - which won't be far in the future - will consume a whole generation of young Americans. This isn't out last chance but it is our last chance to win with comparatively light casualties.

God bless our troops! Americans just don't understand what their courage and determination is wining for us every day in Iraq.
