HEADLINE: Hillary blamed for some of Bill’s worst errors
“Some members of the White House staff say she uses her religiosity as a cover for her faults. Some see it as a mask in her relationship with her husband “She elevates her staying with (Clinton) to a moral level of biblical proportion”
Many were convinced that longtime friend and defence counsel Vince Foster, who later committed suicide, worshipped Hillary from the start. Those who knew them best doubted that they had had an affair. One friend wasn’t sure:
“He loved Hillary. I hoped they had an affair. I think they both deserved it. They both had complicated spouses, complicated marriages”
Hillary, said an aide, “hates the fact that Bill Clinton cheats on her, and that he doesn’t need her as much as she wants. And he’s weak. She’s a very judgmental Methodist from the Midwest. As much as they talk about loving the sinner, they actually also despise a part of the sinner. They hate the weakness. They hate the part of the person who can’t toe the puritan line.”
Hillary knew marrying Bill would mean living in Arkansas and forgoing a prestigious job in Washington or New York. At Bill’s urging, she sat the Arkansas bar exam which she passed. She also sat the DC bar exam, but she failed - a fact she kept hidden for 30 years and took as a sign to marry Bill “When I learnt that I passed in Arkansas but failed in DC, I thought maybe my test scores were telling me something”
