"British Open"

When did they stop calling it the British Open?

In Britain it is known as The Open. We Americans call it the British Open.

Watching and listening to TNT and ABC Sports, I can't recall them calling it the "British Open". They refer to it as "The Open". Also, listening to Tirico this morning, he referred to the pairings or groups as the "game". I guess, "when in Rome...."

If it weren't for Faldo and Zinger, the coverage would be, and nearly is, unbearable. At least Curtis Strange is gone.
