They're not necessarily Muslims. Many of the Iraqi refugees are Chaldean Catholics fleeing religious persecution (as are many of the Iraqis in that part of Michigan, in Warren and Southfield).
Good point. Many or most are probably Christians.
But 16,000 in one place is way too many for local residents and local governments and local economies to handle.
The official policy of the US Government is to provide absolutely no preference to religion regarding which Iraqi gets refugee visas into the US.
