PLYMOUTH - A local Marine accused of murdering an Iraqi civilian remains upbeat as jury selection for his military trial nears.
Lawrence Hutchins III was buoyed by news Friday that co-defendant Trent Thomas escaped a prison sentence for his involvement in the case. Tim Harrington, a former Marine and friend of the Hutchins family, said.
Hutchins called him from his lawyers office in Camp Pendleton with news of Thomass freedom Friday morning.

Harrington said the Thomas case sets a precedent that opens doors for all eight of the Hamadia defendants.

Harrington contends the government coerced statements about the April 26 shooting with the threat of life imprisonment.

In the wake of Thomass release, Harrington called on the government to release the five who pleaded guilty. They are serving sentences that range from one to eight years. Harrington said the governments case started to unravel during the Thomas trial. Although co-defendants testified to shooting an unarmed civilian as a message to insurgents, the government was unable to prove the victims identity and could not even use his name in the closing stages of the trial, Harrington said.
Harrington is part of a group of former Marines who believe that flaws in the military justice system allowed investigators to manipulate the probe into the killing.

Hutchins has pleaded innocent to the charges. He could face life in a federal prison if convicted of the more serious murder charges. The government dismissed three assault charges against Hutchins earlier this year.

We did offer to share a lot of info with you, Mr.Harbert. The same info that we shared with the Thomas Moore Law Center. The same info that we shared with the defense lawyers for the Pendleton Eight. The same info that some of them have used to good effect. The same info that weve shared with several Senators, Congressmen and their staffs. The same information that weve shared with other journalists around the nation.
Even if you had been interested, it wouldve taken you some time to browse through it. It may have taken longer to even begin to understand the implications of that material. We have hundreds and even thousands of pages...and weve only just begun. It is info about the Haditha case that no one else has assembled, and includes original documents, official documentation, personal, phone and email interviews, audio, as well as records of other interactions. It is our contention that this factual and independently verifiable information exonerates the Haditha Marines, the Pendleton Eight, and exposes rampant legal and ethics violations throughout the military justice system. We have also shared the entirety of this research with other Americans around the nation. It is a massive and damning amount of data.
We are doing our research. We, The American People, are watching. 211 million Americans are presently online. More than 70% of us get some or all of our news and info from the internet (and not all of us use Google or Yahoo). That includes Americans from every walk of life, from every ideology, demographic, venue, discipline and religion. We cant all be the extremist, uneducated, ignorant, smelly, sweaty, fashion-challenged bigots and racists that some of you - and many of your colleagues - may think.
Thats more than two hundred million Americans. Conservative talk radio, at its very best, reaches ten per cent of that number. Fox News reaches what? A million or two during the best of times? Mebbe fifteen million per twenty-four hours? The traditional print media is losing - bleeding - readership and revenues for a reason...and that reason has little to do with a lack of any need for local print media. 54 million Americans are reading the blogs for a reason. 211 million Americans are using the internet for a reason. Exchanging home brewery recipes and sharing funny videos is only a very small part of that reason. Thats what we do when were taking a break...from doing the research that people like yourself refuse to do or to share. In a separate email titled Social Singularity, I will share more about that. Enclosed below you will find some info that will be more relevant to the immediate topic. A brief audio introduction, if you will to the material that you refused to consider.
Give Mssrs. Delahunt and Kennedy(s) our greetings. Mr Delahunt and his staff have been well aware of this material for quite some time, now. Mr Walter Jones didnt keep his word to a friend of mine. One Mr. Tim Harrington, a Veteran Sergeant of Marines and a Massachusetts businessman and a respected and award-winning artisan. An email or phone call of appreciation From Mr. Jones to the good Lt Commander (retired) wouldve been appropriate, as well. Walter stayed up all night ensuring that Mr. Jones received that material as expeditiously as possible, and as was agreed upon. After more than a week, an acknowledgment has yet to be received from Mr. Jones or his office. Common courtesy goes a long way, coming from a public servant. On two accounts Mr. Jones has shown exceeding disrespect for us. Thats not a good way to begin with a new acquaintance. Mr. Delahunt - and several other Senators and Congressmen - has done little better. So, you see that we have no partisan interests in this particular affair. Were holding everyone accountable.
I do find it interesting that NumbersUSA was forced to remove the email list for House and Senate staffers that it had gathered. So much for Representative Democracy, eh? ...the mail.house.gov is still rather simple to remember. All one needs is a name. The struggle for freedom never ends. Any and every sacrifice is worth the cost. Who am I to say all of this? In the manner that Ive said it? Im just another American. Despise me and my fellow Americans at your own peril.
I do thank you for your time and consideration.
