We made that at school and compared it was different methods of making sponges I will have to dig out the results if I remember rightly it scored high in presentation but not so good in taste. Maybe they have improved the mix.

OK, it wasn’t the BEST CAKE I’ve had, but it was EASY, and tasty, but I had never put jam/cream on a cake before, so that was my point in making it. The sponge receipes I have take a smidge more effort, and before I put forth said effort, I wanted to give it a test.

I’ve always slathered cake with sugar-y icing and the jam/cream on the Green’s box just looked so good - and so English. So I bought it, tried it, loved it.

In fact, it may have made a convert out of me. I liked the nekkid cake (no icing)!

I was intending to spread the icing you sent me on it (marzipan), but didn’t use it. The jam/cream looked so tasty. But didn’t you say you use BOTH - marzipan and jam?
