The Democratic presidential candidates will line a stage in Charleston, S.C., tonight for their first official debate.
And already, debate fatigue is setting in.
The Democratic contenders have taken part in three "unofficial" debates this year, on top of numerous other "forums" sponsored by various political constituencies. The schedule is only going to get more demanding: After tonight's debate, sponsored by CNN and YouTube and the first of six sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee, there will be a crush of events, culminating in one week in early August when unofficial debates are planned in Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles.
At the end of a recent gathering in Detroit sponsored by the NAACP, former senator John Edwards (N.C.) and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) were overheard discussing their desire to limit the number of participants in the process, as well as the number of debates themselves.

Debate implies a logical and reasoned exchange of ideas, with an intellectually armed foe. One cannot debate with an unarmed opponent.....
I am sick of these so-called debates. They are nothing but hate sessions. And, there is over a year remaining! Good grief.
There is no bigger theater now than the Democratic party and its partner the MSM. They are just putting on a propaganda fest for America as well as the world. GWB gave them back the pulpit to make foolery on American public. And I have no doubt the masses will eat it up as the Pubby Party has become unglued.
I awake every morning and after 5 minutes of most any media outlet put before me..... I see a “Shrill” President about to become a reality.
I think that they miscalculate. For almost 8 years they've been bashing Bush. Now they're stepping it up a couple of notches. The media soft-balls them questions, they denounce Bush. Over and Over and Over. This is beyond tiresome. At some point, even the bored moderates are going to perk up and say, "Yeah? And what would you do?"
And they've got nothing.
“Even Clinton, a disciplined and experienced candidate with a polished delivery on policy matters, sets aside time to prepare for each debate”
I.E. How can we fool them today?
You know, if this keeps up, Bush will NOT win reelection in 2008.
“Senator Edwards feels strongly that voters deserve more substantive debates between the candidates,”
The candidates should consider giving us something more than “It’s all Bush’s fault! Bush is Hitler! Bush is a terrorist! etc. etc. etc.
You know Bush Derangement Syndrome is extremely contagious. I don't know how many times I've seen a room of people suddenly drop into 2 minute hate sessions over Bush. Nothing ever comes of it; no one really discusses anything rationale, nobody worries about fact vs fiction. It's just a pure outpouring of emotion much like that directed at Goldstein in Orwell's 1984. Liberals love to make reference to the book but Bush is hardly Big Brother as he soothes no one. Which begs the question: Who is Big Brother for these BDS sufferers? Who soothes their tortured minds? Hillary, Obama, Al Gore?
Were the first 3 considered “pre-season debates”?
