Yeah? And what about cancer? I’ve lost track of the number of family and friends who have died of cancer. Don’t know one person, personally, with aids.
I went to a funeral for an 18-year old girl that died of lymphoma. Took her in only 8 months. It was one of the saddest funerals I've been to.
Aids is sometimes called cancer on death certificates. One of my neighbors died of Aids but his family said it was cancer. Those who knew him, knew it was really aids. He was part of the Fire Island gay crowd.
I don't know how that can be...I have been personally assured that EVERYONE is endangered by AIDS. In some kind of magial way, I guess. Because at the very same time, I am assured there is no possible way I can catch it from casual social contact with an infected individual. And yet, remember, we should fully fund the fight against it, so that one day, in a bright future world, there will be absolutely no bad consequences whatsover for the irresponsible and completely volentary behavior of a tiny segment of the poplulation who endanger the blood supply and their partners of both sexes (not to mention the unborn) with their bad and immoral life-choices.
Seriously, did you ever notice that the people who preach at me about the importance of "tolerance" in the behavior of others are the very same ones who want to restrict what I eat, how I drive, if I smoke, and what I drink because these entirely personal choices seem to impact their lives in some way, real or imagined? I don't mind if the issue flops one way or another, but I would sure like ONE set of rules.
Agreed. AND AIDS can be prevented, but there seem to be few takers. So let’s keep on with cancer research - and prevention where possible - and forget about AIDS until people get serious. And by serious, I do not mean holding mega-rock concerts and telethons and the like to raise money.
