Yes, but Bush is at the helm now, and has absolutely no excuses after 9-11.

Yep, he is, and I don't see anything wrong with continuing the pressure for him (and Congress) to take proper steps to solve the problem. At the same time, we shouldn't act like Bush created the problem. (And it's not like he's breaking any campaign promise to seal the borders.)

(And it's not like he's breaking any campaign promise to seal the borders.)

In fact, he's keeping them. He made a promise to create a "new America" and has done everything he can to fulfill that promise.

Did your ancestors or even family members fight for the rights of the "new Americans"?

THE "NEW AMERICAN"
..........<

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. He didn't create the "problem" with AQ, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't address it. Campaign promises are irrelevant, but he did take an oath to preserve and protect the Constitution and defend this country against all enemies foreign and domestic. His failure to secure our borders, including setting in place a system to track and deport visa overstays, violates the responsibilities of his office, especially when he knows that terrorists are entering our country thru Mexico.

What he "broke" was much more than a campaign promise. He violated his oath of office to protect America from invasion.

There is absolutely no excuse for what he has knowingly and willingly done to this country. He has not only allowed invasion, he has actually encouraged it!

He has ruined every chance he had to make his legacy great.
