Top Pentagon officials are considering whether they should halt the drawdown of US troops stationed in Europe, a plan that may be outdated because of the war in Iraq and other world developments.
A Defense Department official said Monday some defense leaders are studying whether the 2002 plan to cut troops on the continent by nearly half still makes sense today with America's two ongoing wars, worsening relations with Russia and Iran and a recent plan to grow the Army. (AP)
After 60 years now I think it’s time we ended this quagmire and redeployed out of Europe.

Somebody has to stay and guard the missile shield we are putting in up against Russia’s borders.
We should leave just enough there to fight the Russians.
Chekist Russia has abrogated the treaty that concerns troop levels in Europe. The Russian fuhrer KGB Putin has launched his revanchist campaign to build the USSR-2. The USA cannot respond by withdrawing forces from Europe. Instead we should increase troop levels in forward positions such as Poland and Romania.
I know that Germany even before Merkl came into power, was having a cow at the thoughts of loosing $$$$$ necessary to provide staff and other "services" for our troops, not to mention the $$$$$$$ they needed for housing, etc.
We do need troops strategically placed in a number of areas but to have massive troops numbers sitting in outposts waiting ground combat (which rarely happens in today's world) to handle quick strikes into known hot spots as well as predictable future hot spots around the globe.
Absolutely no reason liberal Europe, who cannot abide U.S. "arrogance and swagger" any way, need lots of non-combat staff sitting in beer gardens and pubs, just to "help local economy" of the leftists anyway.
If Gore had tried this, we would have screamed bloody murder.
We are 4 divisions, 5 airwings, and 2 carrier groups, and 100 ships short of where we need to be.
I don’t think any german prime has ever bothered about the business germany has because of the GIs.
It’s just a political question.
I have a good feeling with the nukes in ramstein that I cannot express in Euros.
Maybe there’s no actual need for them since submarine based nukes on UK, French and US vessels are more effective - but to know Mrs. Merkel can make a phone call and get a go from Washington to borrow the one or the other thermonuclear device - that’s good to know.
Yes - I know she’s never going to use them.
Wait until the F-35 desaster unfolds.
