Is Congress Really Trying To Help The Troops?
US Army combat soldier ^ | Brad Samvel

Recently, a congressional caucus pulled an all night Iraq war talk session to figure out exactly how to pull the troops out of Iraq . Ever since the Democrats took “control" of Congress, they have been fighting for the troops to come home. Why such drastic measures to pull the only force that is keeping relative stability in the region?

Politics.

The sincerity of political figures on this troop pullout can’t be more than skin deep when they know they are fighting a ridiculous battle. To pull troops out of Iraq right now would only give terrorists a stronghold in the region and breed an entirely new generation of hate towards the west.

Al Qaeda is a formidable and despicable foe. When they have the opportunity to take control, they do, and they bring with them strict Islamic Law, which is brutal and barbaric. They torture and behead their victims after finding them guilty of crimes such as smoking cigarettes, women showing their faces or missing a prayer.

Small pockets of this anarchy have been found all over Iraq where Al Qaeda has found strongholds. To pullout now with Iraq ’s weak security force and government would allow these terrorists to take over the entire country and institute their Islamic law throughout, creating a huge base of operations for terrorists to begin targeting the western world even more.

The politicians in Congress must know all of the consequences of their actions, so why are they still so adamant on their drive to pull our combat troops out?

It boils down to the political game. Everybody wants their Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Marines to be home were things are safe. With troops overseas we naturally miss them and want the whole situation to be over with. A flood of emotions follows the deployment of troops, and politicians are using the rising tide to play the heartstrings of the American public.

It could almost be called manipulation. They are using our hurt, our pain from the absence of our loved ones against us by giving us a false hope. A hope that if we just pull our men and women out of the country everything will just fix itself and we can go on with our normal lives without regards to the consequences of our actions.

Why? Why would they do this to us?

Elections. Power. The ability to have a position of power and shape the country the way you they fit. These politicians know that if they pull our heartstrings enough and sell us the fantasy that our loved ones don’t need to fight anymore, we will buy into it. We want to be done with the country of Iraq so badly we are willing to believe what they say. They are toying with our emotions for their own political gain, and I for one am tired of it.

As a Soldier who is currently deployed to Iraq , I know the hardships of war and the pain of missing my family. But I can also see the enemy at work over here. Al Qaeda is a real threat to our way of life, and if we let this country fall to this threat, we can surely see an increase of attacks on our own soil. I would much rather be fighting this war here than back home.

So please, don’t buy into the political agenda. We are fighting the enemy on foreign soil, and as much as we miss our families and friends, we don’t want to be fighting back at home. Don’t let them play with your heartstrings, and let us keep you safe.

Thanks for posting this, DBCJR...bears repeating.

None of these soldiers WANT to be in Iraq or Afghanistan...I am sure they would all rather be home. But as this fellow says, they see the real enemy over there.

Obviously, this is written by a Patriot who sees the forest for the trees. A man who is willing to put his future on hold while he goes to distant lands to fight a bloodthirsty enemy that slaughters men, women and children while chanting satan’s name. But more than that, he gambles his life, knowing that to lose is unimaginable.
