I will drink to that. (Yeah, I know better, but heck.)
Pro-Taliban Pakistani tribesman cornered, killed
ISLAMABAD, July 24 (Reuters) - A leading pro-Taliban tribesman was killed after being surrounded by Pakistani forces near the Afghan border, Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said on Tuesday.
Abudullah Mehsud was released from the U.S. detention centre at Guantanamo Bay in 2004. Later that year he kidnapped two Chinese engineers working in South Waziristan, a region known as a hotbed of support for al Qaeda and the Taliban.
"He was killed in a house in Zhob, where he was staying with three comrades," the Interior Ministry spokesman said, referring to a district of southwest Baluchistan province neighbouring Waziristan.
According to officials in Baluchistan, Mehsud blew himself up to avoid arrest, and his three comrades were captured. He was second in command of a Pakistani Taliban group headed by Baitullah Mehsud. Their followers often sneaked across the border to attack U.S., NATO and Afghan forces.
Zhob: wanted militant Abdullah Mehsud blows himself up ZHOB: The law enforcement officials raided a house of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) official in district Zhob of Balochistan and captured three men for alleged links with Taliban, while militant leader Abdullah Mehsud, blew himself up to avoid arrest.
Federal Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema Tuesday confirmed Mehsud's death. He was wanted for the kidnapping of two Chinese engineers in 2004, he said.
Abdullah Mehsud killed himself with a hand grenade when law enforcement officials raided house of JUI district secretary Shaikh Ayub in Ganj Mohalla in Zhob.
"Abdullah Mehsud blew himself up with a grenade and died when forces raided his hideout. Three of his accomplices were arrested for suspected links with Taliban," said Atta Mohammed, police chief of Zhob.
``Thanks be to God that our men were safe,'' he said.
The arrested men have been shifted to an unknown place for investigations, officials said.
This is a guy who was let loose by one of those military tribunals that the left has been claiming are too mean to terrorists.
Use drones armed with Hellfire missles next time.
Are there any “innocent” among the Taliban?
