Poll: American Support for the War Inches Up

American support for the initial invasion of Iraq has risen somewhat as the White House has continued to ask the public to reserve judgment about the war until General David Petraeus files his report in the fall. In a New York Times/CBS News poll conducted over the weekend, 42 percent of Americans said that taking military action in Iraq was the right thing to do, while 51 percent said the United States should have stayed out of Iraq.

KEYWORDS:
If the NYT says support is "inching up", their polling must show that it is skyrocketing. Most Americans are winners at heart and they want to win this war, not "cut and run".

Democrats are becoming suicidal. This can’t happen. It’s their worst nightmare. All of their plans are driven by blind hatred and are built around losing and then initiating impeachment. What will they do?

...Me thinks if this keeps up the MSM is going to have to go into propaganda overdrive. Eventually they will be posting pictures on the front covers of major papers of servicemen - women killed in action...the more gruesome the photo the better. After all, they can not let us win this war. Just my hunch.

I think you’re right. Desert Storm didn’t last long enough for the left to get fully organized for defeat, and it therefore did not discredit their worldview to any irreparable degree.
It is very different now, the left has gone all out for defeat for years on end. They have staked everything on defeat and failure in Iraq. They are desperate and they know they are in a race against the clock to force a political defeat before our troops can crush the insurgency.

Agreed. Just like the Axis powers at the end of WWII they won’t go down without a vicious fight.

The New York Times is working overtime on a story line that credits Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY). She did vote for the war.
