Nearly 300 Mexican political, civic and union organizations have joined the call to march on July 26, Cuba's National Rebellion Day, with the slogan, "To Defend Cuba Is to Defend Mexico."
Peter Geller, a leader of the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MMSC), confirmed on Monday to Prensa Latina that a high turnout is expected.
Initiated by MMSC, the march has been scheduled to mark the 54th anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Manuel de Cespedes garrisons.
Demonstrators will march to the US Embassy in the Mexican capital, where they will demand cessation of US aggressions against Cuba and the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Island for over 45 years.
"More than ever before, defending Cuba is defending Mexico," says the call, emphasizing how the Cuban people keep their revolutionary project alive and firmly defend their sovereignty and self-determination.
Peter Geller? Doesn't sound Mexican to me. Sounds like a little spoiled American pinko brat who needs an ass-kicking, and I volunteer for the job.
a good start.
Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
And what maybe 500 people tops are going to march?
I misread it the first time, and thought it said: "Mexicans to March TO Cuba."
That would be a much better idea.
My new bride and I were in Mexico D.F. two days after the Bay of Pigs invasion. We were in a small shop when a bunch of Army trucks rolled into the street and troops with hard hats and riot guns began to pile out. We asked the shopkeeper “Que Paso?” and he told us that the building across the street was the U.S. Embassy. Of course, we had no way of knowing because our flag was not visible. The Mexican went on to say that apparently there was some concern about possible demonstrations, and that since there were 40,000 students at the University, there were always a few people willing to join a demonstration. Actually we were not even aware of the Bay of Pigs mess, though there had been some running and yelling “Cuba si Yankee no” and a few cars turned over, the night before. But back then the Mexican authorities were our friends, at least it seemed so to us.
The Mexcian authorities have never been a friend to the United States. Never.

Sounds like a German last name. German immigrants moved to Mexico in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Hence, the Mexican artist named “Frieda Kahlo”....
Germany has always cozied up to Mexico, especially during WWI and WWII.
MMSC is a splinter marxist group operating in Mexico to very little effect. Some of its efforts are concentrated on recruiting “youth” who don’t know any better. The Mexicans as a whole are not fond of the Cuban government, which does stupid, high-handed things, and Fox more than once recalled his diplomats from Cuba in protest of some of the stupider stuff. More Cubans are bailing out to Mexico than they are to the U.S. There is a large Cuban contingent there, but they stay relatively quiet so that their relatives who remain in Cuba aren’t penalized.
