Anatolia was the land of the Hittites. Of course, the Seljuk Turks first invaded the area a thousand years ago, and fought with the Byzantine Empire. Then the Ottoman Turks took Constantinople in 1453.
The Turks are from Central/East Asia.
I do not believe that Turkey has very many Shiites. I think Sunni Islam prevails.
