LOS ANGELESMarijuana is a religious sacrament and a Hollywood church that burned the drug during services and distributed it to members is protected under federal law, the leader of the congregation argued in a hearing before his drug possession trial Tuesday.
The Rev. Craig X Rubin, 41, the leader of the 420 Temple who has appeared in episodes of the Showtime comedy "Weeds," faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of possessing marijuana for sale.

Though ordained in 1990 by the Universal Life Church, police and prosecutors describe Rubin as a drug dealer.

"We feel pot is the tree of life mentioned in the Bible, so it is incorporated into the ceremony," Rubin said before the hearing began.
Deputy District Attorney Bob Chen told Superior Court Judge Mary H. Strobel there have been no cases in California where marijuana use was acceptable for religious reasons.

Smoking marijuana is directly connected to our religion. But we dont smoke cannabis during the religious services, said Rubin. We burn it as an incense.
The smoke carries our prayers to heaven, to the Creator and around the world to others.
Now, if Pope Benedict would just issue another Moto Proprio along these lines, we might just start to see those fallen-away Catholics of the 60's start attending Mass again in droves.
Anybody want to guess here:
1. The Feds won’t kick down the door of a Catholic church in order to deport an illegal alien who has an outstanding order to deport.
2. Another church likes to smoke a little weed.
Which church will be kicked in and possibly burned?
I wish this man the best of luck with his defense.
He’s going to need it.
Marijuana causes Global Warming and the second hand smoke is killing our children.
LOL.....my husband became a Reverend from the same so called church as a gag.
