The House Judiciary Committee, in a straight party-line vote, approved a contempt resolution against White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers, setting up a constitutional battle between the Bush administration and Congress over executive privilege.
After several hours of skirmishing over whether to send a contempt resolution to the House floor, the committee voted by a 22-17 margin to approve the measure.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other Democratic leaders will now have to decide if and when to hold a vote by the full House on the resolution. A vote could take place as early as next week, said Democratic insiders.

This is a follow-up on several earlier posted threads. The moonbats are going to town.
If the rats ever get a president elected again, they will reap what they sew.
This is what happens with a democratic controlled Congress, disaster, witch trials, propaganda spewing and third world truth telling. I heard here on FR several times before the 2006 elections, it would be good for democrats to be in power to teach republicans a lesson. I was one of the freepers saying it would be a disaster. I guess we can tell those calling for change in Congress at the time here were dead wrong and those that attacked the republicans MORE THAN the democrats in the media, like Michelle Malkin, Rich Lowry and others should be proud of themselves.
More barking from the mangy, rabid dogs in Congress.
And when does this esteemed body get to work on the “people’s business”? Seems like all the two legislative bodies want to do is get in spitting matches with the other two branches of government.
Except this barking could result in $100,000 fines and one year in imprisonment for both Bolten and Miers in the House. This is a serious Cosntitutional show-down.

Sometimes I wish Congress could still settle their differences with duels....
The Dems are threatening to have the House Sergeant at Arms arrest Miers and Bolten.
Sometimes I wish Congress could still settle their differences with duels....
I call Cheney for the Executive branch!
They also are trying to find a way into White House documents and Emails to do a fishing expedition.
If Bush wanted to, he could legally fire everyone and it is legal for any reason he wanted.
The people mostly know this now, so what is the payoff for Democrats, go get below 16% approval ratings?
Subject to complete pardons?
Arlene is really an ass. Now he’s saying he’s going to review the testimony of Roberts and Alito to see if their rulings are consistent with that testimony. What an idiot! What about the separation of powers now? Congress is just disgusting.
Contempt of Congress is probably not pardonable, although the subject has never, to my knowledge, been addressed in a court.
What IS this all about? I don’t understand it. Help, please?
It would be so nice to see Bush take to the podium and say “We fired them because we felt like it. We’re not talking to you any more about it because we don’t have to and don’t feel like feel like it. If that bothers you check out the constitution, you morons. Next question.”
In the end this goes nowhere because the President can pardon anyone except in cases of impeachment.
According to Rush via Levin... they have NO AUTHORITY to do so without a court order... and Justice has to order it... and Gonzales says NO!

I just betcha Miers and Bolton are really scared.
All show and no substance, Is this the crap their going to point to come 2008. I don’t anger is going to get many votes.
Sorry, your Honor, I am guilty as charged.
“The Dems are threatening to have the House Sergeant at Arms arrest Miers and Bolten.”
So they’re against keeping terrorists at Guantanamo, but are for kidnapping and falsely imprisoning members of other branches of government they have no oversight over.
Lovely.
They are more than willing to engineer a military defeat for America if a military victory can’t be used for their own advantage. It should be clearer and clearer to the American public that the Democrat Party has become a monster in the bosom of the nation which is far more dangerous and vicious than any force we are opposing overseas.
We CAN take out Al Quaida, capture or kill Bin Laddin, prevent another attack on American soil, and win the war against Islam.
But we cannot do it with Democrats pulling the strings in Washington, preventing preemptive action, second guessing military operations, undermining the military by forcing the administration to enact “rules of engagement”, forbidding us to take the war to the enemy wherever it is, and forbidding the military from treating these pirates and fanatics like the kinds of menaces they are rather than as conventional soldiers fighting for a legitimate nation.
Before we can beat the Muslims, we need to defeat the Democrats and RINOs.
Imagine these jerkoffs with the WH again. They are dangerously political, irresposponsible with the power, and blind to the true dangers facing America.
Congress is trying to make Presidential aides (or in this case, former aides) testify in front of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees. The President is refusing, claiming Executive Privilege protects the independence of the Executive Branch of Government. So the Dems are attempting to enforce their subpoenas by threatening criminal charges of Contempt of Congress.
Agreed I have nothing but contempt for these socialist scum.
Not necessarily true. It depends on whether you're looking at statuatory or inherent powers of contempt.
Too bad the Republican's didnt have the nads that the RAT's have.
The RAT's use the same tactic's as terrorists and exploit their enemies weaknesses while Pubbies just want to take the high road.
Now THAT would be fun...
I understand your viewpoint, but the sad fact was I couldn’t vote for any Republican here in Ohio but Ken Blackwell. The Ohio GOP is as corrupt as its ever been in the states history.
“we’re democraps
and we do not like you,
bolton and miers.”
whaaaaaaa.
“Sometimes I wish Congress could still settle their differences with duels....”
LOL
I’ll load those pistols for them!
Arlen is vying for dim support... must be some more of that “Scottish Law” stuff. I despise arlen the rino-rump!

I have always heard that a presidential pardon has no bounds. ala article II section 2
The Rats don’t want it to go to court because they’ll lose based on the Constitution,
“and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.”
The only way the Rats would have a case is if some wacko judge rules that congress is not part of or representing the interest of the United States.
Yeah, this is better right? Not in my eyes.
I have always heard that a presidential pardon has no bounds. ala article II section 2
“Sometimes I wish Congress could still settle their differences with duels....”
CSPAN’s ratings would go through the roof. ;)
I may be wrong, but I believe most scholars argue the pardon power is limited to judiciary offenses. The President has no power to pardon actions of Congress like findings of contempt or impeachment. But there's no point arguing this... let's just sit back and see how the Supreme Court rules if as and when this comes up for decision.
I would think in that case that judge would have to be on the wacko Supreme Court
Then the dims need to BRING IT! I’m ready for for this political war to go HOT!

Contempt of Congress is an offense against Congress, not the United States. Not saying I agree with that, but that's the argument the Rats will use.
I know impeachment is of limits put I don’t think contempt is.IMHO
They believe that Bush and the GOP are bigger threats to freedom than the terrorists. And as long as they act like this, they must be kept out of the White House.
Well, if it comes to it, I think the Secret Service can outgun the Capitol Police. (/only half joking)
Congress is part of the US, and if one can be imprisoned for contempt of congress, one can be pardoned.
No its not
If the citations win support in the full House, they would be forwarded to the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia a Bush appointee.
And that's as far as it's likely to go, the Justice Department said in a letter to the committee late Tuesday.
Conyers and company are pissing in the wind!
I would welcome it. It would be the single stupidest thing they could do, hence they probably will.
:-) I like that thought!
