If a one billion people on the planet would pedal 20 hours a week, the savings would be..

Just think, installing a comfortable rubber seat with a funnel formed in the center would allow the capture of copious amounts of methane gas also from a diet of beans and other such gas producing goodies. An excellent side benefit. Gives new meaning to 'gas fired' generators.

Then the 17 HP Diesel that generates 6KW is only about 47% efficient. A 17 HP Diesel generates 12.7 KW... Mechanical and Electrical Watts are about the same from what I have read -- though conversion is a different story...

That's exactly my point. There is no 100% efficient conversion from one energy source to another. The 17HP diesel engine generator happens to be very inefficient. They get better as the sizes go up.

How much power can human generate would also depend on the mechanics of the generator that he/she is spinning.

I'll bet if there was a way to capture all the hot air from the global warming crowd ant their apostle, it'll power up a good size steam generator.

My first thought too — where’s Edward G. Robinson when we need him?

Now divide 1482 MW hours by 168 (because a power plant works 24/7/365) and you get a little over a 8800 Mega watts. Eight nuke or coal fired power plants a heck of a lot less than 20 BILLION manhours per week.

But look at it this way, all those people in China and India now have a job ;^)

That's right - jobs that Americans won't do.
