A Northwest Airlines flight bound for Memphis was forced to return to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday because of a bomb threat, though authorities did not believe the bomb was on board the plane, an airport spokeswoman said.
Airport police were questioning a man who told a gate agent there was a bomb on Northwest Flight 980 shortly after the plane left Seattle around 12:33 p.m., airport spokeswoman Terri-Ann Betancourt said.

Sometimes happens when people are going to be late. They call in a bomb threat. Happens at schools too right around testing time.
Dang! My sis had to take a VERY IMPORTANT TO HER CAREER test today, I don’t know who was more nervous, she or me! I shoulda called in a ....oh, wait...that wouldn’t have solved the problem, and would have created many more for both of us.
Why don’t people think these things thru?!
DB Cooper?
Local radio (KVI) has been all over this since yesterday.
It’s really just mouth-agape stupid. Serious, brain-sucking stupid... I mean... what kind of nimrod thinks that after announcing his bomb threat, turning the plane around to land again... that he will then be just simply allowed on the plane and off they’d all go on their merry way. I’m utterly unable to explain that.
In the updated story it says he was travelling with a group. I wonder who...
I agree with John Carlson. I want this guy to be famous. Beyond the felony charges and the no-fly list I can only hope that he is mercilessly and publicly ridiculed and that his name becomes a verb.
Beings that I work Reservations for an airport transport that takes people TO Sea-Tac, I can tell you that I deal with these kind of people every day.
They have the attitude of “I’m more important than you, so I need things done my way RIGHT THE (expetive) NOW!!”. From what I’ve heard, this nitwit had that kind of attitude, getting belligerent when the gate agent didn’t make the plane come back and get him.
Now, his attempt to get things done “his way” is likely going to get his stupid backside sent to do Federal hard time. That is, unless he gets a REALLY slick lawyer. Even so, since this is dealing with a really touchy subject, his lawyer may not be able to get him a good deal, no matter how much money he has.
Roger that. I too deal with just these sorts of primadonnas all the time. I’ve seen some amazing displays of world-class arrogance, and drama worthy of applause. :-)
But beyond the arrogance— the stupidity. He actually thought they would let him on that plane after it came back. Sheesh... talk about not thinking it through...
I hope his name and photo are on posters all over town after this. Think about how steamed all those passengers must have been, and rightly so. Not to mention, apparently in order to deal with this a number of other inbound flights had to be diverted to Everett. Hassles all around for hundreds, if not thousands of people.
Stupidity like this should hurt.
Some people are so stupid you wonder how they get themselves dressed in the morning.
