“Romney has a governor’s organization skills.”
Yes, you are very correct on Romney. My first choice for Prez, at this point, would be Duncan Hunter, but I am a realist, and I don’t think he can lift himself out of the second tier. That’s terribly unfortunate, as I think he would make an excellent President. I feel that Romney would also make an excellent President for just the reason you have stated, his organizational skills, which are outstanding. And, he is an excellent speaker and debater, a quality sadly lacking in Bush Jr. Plus he is an optimist, the glass is always half full, not half empty. However, I plan on maintaining my neutrality through the Fall, when I have heard a great deal from all of the Pub candidates for Prez, including Fred Thompson, if he ever gets off his duff and actually announces his candidacy. It will be an interesting campaign season.

Agreed. Hunter is pure conservative. I like Allan Keyes, too for the same reason. Keyes was like Confuscious, he always wanted to be in politics but was destined to be a teacher.

If Fred Thompson shoots himself in the foot before he even announces, who are people suposed to support? Candidates that get 1 to 2% in the polls and have zero chance of winning the nomination let alone winning the national race?
The majority of FReepers want to win in 2008. The worst possible outcome for the conservative movement is to let the Clintons, or just as bad Obama, into the WH.

>>>>>>The majority of FReepers want to win in 2008. So do I. If the GOP nominates a conservative candidate who runs on an agenda that advances a strong national defense, tax reform, limited govt, opposing amnesty and supporting pro-life issues, the GOP will win. Traditional American values are a winner.
Giuliani is a life long liberal. He's the antithesis of conservatism. Rooty`s just another liberal trying to hoodwink conservatives into voting for him. We don't need another liberal sitting in the Oval Office -- no Hillary, no Obama and NO Giuliani!

Spencer Abraham is a fairly good conservative no matter what the likes of Debbie Shuffle have to say.
I pay no attention to what that attention whore says. She is a whackjob.
I prefer Hunter but Fred will do.

This is really over the top.
Abraham supported all the things she said - amnesty, islamonuts, and more. Very bad that he’s now on FDT’s team. Between this, the abortion lobby flub, he’s running a lousy campaign.
Enough with the ad hominems already.

I know Spencer Abraham as being madly for open borders. Not literally for open borders but you get the picture. This was going back years ago. Prior to 2000 when he lost to Debbie Stabenow

While channel surfing I caught Romney's wife going on with some Republican ladies in an historic house in South Carolina. She was quite charming and un-pretentious the way she spoke. Big on horseback riding and has won prizes
I'm inclined towards Mitt Romney because he's clean cut and sober and has lead such a life. Has proven himself at Baine&Co, at Utah Olympics, as Massachusetts governor. Plus he has enough religion to be very suspicious of Islam. Mitt Romney is about the least wacky candidate in the race. Hillary is power mad witch, Obama a coke head of weird parentage, McCain is nuts, Rudy Gulianni can be flaky plus 3 wives?, Fred Thompson??? Plus he backed McCaine campaign finance

Yes... as Richard Vigurie pointed out to supporters of Fred to name ONE prominent conservative in Fred's inner circle. Someone we know and trust. When you guys do, I'll be the first to come on board. But I want a definite answer because I'm not going to support any candidate out of blind faith. I just want to know there's someone in his campaign who can relay the concerns of the conservative community to the candidate. For me, its as simple as that. We all want to know we'll have influence, not merely during the campaign but after the election. So that Free Republic's goals, and that of the conservative movement, can be most effectively pursued in a future Republican Administration.
