Thompson addresses CFR question

WASHINGTON – Former Sen. Fred Thompson, a Republican presidential candidate in waiting, candidly answered a question at a campaign stop in Texas yesterday regarding his membership in the Council on Foreign Relations, sometimes referred to as a "shadow government" organization of elites with a global agenda.

In an exchange caught on YouTube that later deteriorated into a police encounter, an activist asked Thompson about his membership in the group, linking it with plans for a "North American Union."

I guess you think she should be jailed. After all, what does she think this is; a free country where a person’s right to speak is protected by the Constitution?

She can speak all she wants. She was being disorderly and rude, which is selfish, and quickly becomes dangerous in a crowd. That's why there are bouncers in bars.

I think laws against loitering and panhandling are okay, too.

And do chill out.

Dick Cheney and Condi Rice are members also. So what’s the big deal?

Good thing our government is altruistic...

It isn't altruism to take something from one and give it to another. It's theft.

Government "altruism" isn't generosity, it's pandering.

No doubt tehre are similar documents from multiple think tanks. Lots of people have bad ideas, and probably evil agendas.

These bad ideas are exactly why conservatives must be willing, indeed eager, to confront these ideas in the marketplace of ideas, such as at the CFR.

You have got to be kidding. Please tell me you are.

Are you actually maintaining that private people removing a person who is clearly causing a disturbance is a violation of someone’s constitutional rights? Have you bothered to actually read the constitution to check on that one?

If you did indeed watch that video and didn’t have the mute button on, you couldn’t miss the disturbance the woman caused AFTER she was ASKED to leave.

I don’t know what kind of Fred supporter you are, but if this is an example of the kind of slipshod thinking that you use to determine what candidate to support, I hear there’s a former Mass. governor with really great hair that’s waiting for your $10 check. Either that or you should refrain from posting while drinking.

She did nothing to warrant that treatment.

She was starting to rant and interrupt him as he was attempting to answer her first question. I thought he gave a good answer. She then tried to monopolize the conversation. I don't know what she was physically doing with her body, since the camera didn't show that, but that may have been a problem too. I give the handlers the benefit of the doubt (which is slim).

It's a common-sense thing. Ask your question, raise your issue, and be polite about it. Otherwise, people will conclude (correctly) that you're a nut. Political nuts who are trying to get in politicians' faces (as opposed to putting ads in newspapers or on the radio) can be dangerous. One of the danger signs is someone who exhibits social cluelessness. Such people have right to vote and speak, but no right to be disorderly. They sometimes need to be separated from the objects of their strange affections.

Why are you so afraid of conservatives that are willing to engage in debate with liberals and attempt to change their minds?

Do you have so little faith in the strength of conservative ideas?

Do we really even know who all the members of the CFR are?

I have a list of names but it's incomplete. Fred's name isn't on it and he admits he's a member.

I'm looking for an updated list.

Makes me wonder how many of the people who are acting so upset about this here at FR are the same type of plant.

There are altogether too many people here who appear to seek to do nothing but keep conservatives divided. That is, unless we agree to support their vanity candidate.

I'm not voting for anyone working to eradicate our borders and erase our identity.

I'm an American first and a conservative second. Without the first, there's no need for the second.

The Council on Foreign Relations isn’t running for any office. Certain members of the organization may well be, but the organization itself has ZERO POWER to enact any of it’s silly ‘plans’.

You people pumping this silliness are one step away from running around Times Square with a sandwich board and a megaphone.

No CFRer will ever be getting my vote again.

And no wooden, pork barrel spending congressman from California with a crappy attendance record will be getting mine. It's great to know where we all stand.

Man, I can imagine what you would have say about Paul Revere at the.

He was a tin foiler, the British weren't coming and he was just being silly.

You see what you see and I see what I see.

Here's a 2006 members list.

Thompson, Fred D. (R-TN) - former U.S. Senator (1994-2003); author of the Chinagate "Thompson Report"

The list is HERE

If I discovered that Duncan Hunter was a CFRer surrounding himself with Bush men and tools for the OBL, was endorsed by GPB, and would give illegal aliens “aspirations of citizenship”, he wouldn’t get my support or vote either.

If this was about Hunter and not Thompson, I think there would be such a wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Fred camp it would clog the forum.

But it isn't, so "let's just move on".(sarcasm)

>> I WATCHED THE VIDEO AND I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT FRED’S TEAM WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR HER BEING DRAGGED OUT.

AND, YES I’M USING ALL CAPS......THIS HAS REALLY DISTURBED ME AND I’M A FRED SUPPORTER.<<

Her exact words were, “they are asking me to leave.”

There are lots of events where you can’t just come up to people and yell crazy things in their face without being asked to leave. If its a place with security and you don’t leave then you usually get arrested.
