In the old days, retailers had to protect themselves from “underringing” where cashier and customer were both in on the scam and few predetermined expensive items were not in those days rung up on the cash register. But in today’s high tech world the middleman has been eliminated and robbing your local Walmart can become a family affair.

Cherry paid $113 in goods but had a total of $400 worth of stolen merchandise sitting in her cart, police said. Cherry was stopped while a male companion accompanying her bolted out the door, according to reports. Her boyfriend went with her to WalMart! Chivalry is not dead!

Our local Walmart & a few other stores take pictures of shoplifters and ban them from stores. A guard will escort them right back out the door if they catch them inside & this is without any judge’s orders.

Banned from WalMart for life. That’s gonna leave a mark.

As a cultural note, I see that a disproportionate number of adult, professional shoplifters are African-American women.
I’m not sure why.
However, my wife used to work in retail, and she noted that this made ever black female come under intense suspicion, and that situation was uncomfortable for both shoppers and staff.
