Anyway, they would have 2 or 3 of a single item, mostly things that didn't weigh much in their hand, scan one or two of them and then put all of them in the bag. Next they would scan a heavy item and put it in the bag. This kept the weight sensors from sensing the light-weight items that didn't get scanned. I saw them do it for I don't know how many items.
I kept waiting for a Wal-Mart security person to meet them after they finished their tally, but I saw them walk right out the door. They did it right under the employee's nose. Amazing. Surely Wal-Mart is aware of this practice and to watch for it. Surely.
Saw basically the same thing a few years ago in a grocery store. Hispanic couple with several children took about 5 carts of groceries out to the old Chevy van without even bothering to bag them. Deputy and store manager simply walked up to them while they were unloading the fourth cart. I heard one father telling the store manager “I didn’t think you would come after us, and arrest us in front of the children”. The stolen items were rung up at over $375.00 and photographed.
When I saw the self checkout, I knew it would be problems for thieves. In one way, I think the stores deserve it because they are trying to get away with not having to pay employees. Ok, not ‘deserve’ maybe, but at least need a wake up call. I bet hundreds of thousands walk out their door every day. But yet when I go through with a grocery buggy full of stuff, I get stopped and the lady looks at my receipt. As if she can use Xray vision to see the 150 items in my bags.
Just stupid and stupidity doesn’t pay. We have to pay for their stupidity so they can save a few bucks on work comp and salary.
You should have reported what you saw. Please don’t think I am judging, but these stores rely on other shoppers to help them also. I just left Walmart and reported a man who was trying to stuf two movies and a bottle of coke in his pockets.
