While that may explain the how and why of this policy shift, it offers no assurance as to whether it is wise. You want assurances? You do realize this is a war, right?
Anyway the first positive result from this deal is Musharraf's move into Waziristan.

The Bhutto family is the power elite of Pakistan and is very popular. Benazir is more popular than Musharraf but Musharraf has the military solidly behind him. This coalition greatly strengthens the central government and will likely prevent civil war. The Taliban and AQ are definately going to be very unhappy about this. The NW tribal areas have never been governed by Pakistan but this coalition could collect enough political will to either invade or make them autonomous and independent, either way is good for us. Good summary.

Two imperfect leaders. this is, I think a nudge towards democracy. He got power by a military coup and is competent. She is very popular with the ignorant masses but was incompetent and corrupt by her own admission.
It is a fascinating and very complicated society more a territory with an army without yet being a country. Only now just beginning to provide water and electricity to 100m pop.

Hmmm, try doing a google search on "Arthur Herman". The first entry I found was titled, "Why Arthur Herman is Wrong!"
Hmm, interesting indeed! I hope Herman IS wrong.

>>This is supposed to earn him new support as hes under attack by the rapid Islamists religious fanatics. I hope it works. Meanwhile, there are reports hes hitting bin Ladens sanctuaries. Well see.<<
Its funny to be rooting for military dictator with nuclear weapons - but it beats the heck out of the Taliban with nuclear weapons.
