Well, it took two and a half years, but the University of Colorado finally axed the nutty professor. Ward Churchill has been fired for academic misconduct, including plagiarism. Despite those assertions, this was really about an out-of-control teacher earning nearly $100,000 a year saying things so foolish that no institute of learning could support them.
Imagine losing a loved one in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and then hearing a tenured professor of “Ethnic Studies” accuse your dead relative or friend of being “a little Eichmann,” a Nazi. All because the murdered person worked in a capitalistic enterprise.
That statement from Churchill is the equivalent of a teacher denying the Holocaust happened or saying that slavery wasn’t evil. How could any school allow a teacher that misguided to instruct students? Talk about academic malpractice!
Predictably, the “free speech” corps rushed to defend Churchill’s “opinion.” The ACLU urged CU not to fire the man, and a bunch of other phonies screamed “academic freedom.”
That must have amused old Larry Summers, the former president of Harvard. In January 2005, Summers publicly mused that maybe women were not as proficient in math and science as men because more males were employed in those disciplines.
Well, you would have thought that Summers had called women Nazis. The Harvard faculty pounded Summers into pudding and he was forced to resign. The PC forces destroyed him, with barely a peep from the “free speech” lobby. In fact, the ACLU’s Women’s Rights Project demanded that Summers rescind his remarks.
Now, please, can we put this ACLU thing to bed once and for all? This is a far-left advocacy group with no interest in anybody’s speech it doesn’t like. Yeah, once in a while it’ll stick up for a nonliberal cause, but in a contrived public-relations move. You want free speech? The ACLU is a dishonest group that hides behind the First Amendment in order to promote a secular-progressive America. So sue me.
More free speech: Ward Churchill hates the United States and defamed innocent people who were brutally killed on 9/11. The charade of firing him took far too long. He’s now suing and that’s fine. Even though he loathes this country, he’s in love with the protections it affords him. What a guy.
This entire sordid episode demonstrates that fanatics on the left like Churchill have a built-in fan base in the media and in the corridors of higher education. The University of Colorado finally did the right thing, but it did it the wrong way.
College professors may have cushier jobs than the rest of us, but they also have a responsibility to tell the truth. Most of those murdered in the World Trade Center were decent human beings just trying to do well by their families.
Churchill called them Nazis. For that, he deserves to be shunned forever.

Why should an American Indian even care? There are kooks everywhere and in every country. 5% of the people you see anywhere are kooks. Trust me on this. I did the ground work. All over the place.
Sir Winston’s family ought to be filing a lawsuit against the nutty professor, demanding that he change his last name, as he defames the great man of Britain by merely existing.
My next statement is partly personal opinion and partly from research I did a couple years ago on the subject.
The so called American indians that you saw supporting churchill are not REAL tribes.
Some 20 or 30 years ago, all of a sudden new tribes formed, and sold membership cards, it is to one of these tribes that churchill belonged.
In my opinion they are more of the communist fringe fools, who are out to change history.
You will find them talking about their ‘muslim’ ancestors also.
If you want to read about the real tribes on the reservations, that did not claim churchill, play around with searching for his name in Google Groups, look at the old reports, they were talking about him 15 or more years ago.
I do not have the links or recall the names, but expect them to still be there.

We have a lot of that here in New England. Despite contrary studies by anthropologists decades ago, a local "tribe" has assumed legitimacy. Unlike the earlier Hippie Wannabe's, we have a sinster reason for it now.

Adding this factor has introduced a lot of infighting as to "Who is who". One example is the Amonsoquath Tribe of Cherokee. Here is one of many web posts:

Churchill only gamed the system for a cushy job. Add local megabucks, and it gets nasty.
Good riddance. Now the University of Hawaii’s College of Arts & Sciences can pick up its new Ethnic Studies department head.

Many American Indians are easily led, and are on paths that I do not like.
I have read a group that I stumbled onto 10 years ago, and am amazed at how far to the left they are going.
When I read them in the beginning, they told the history in wonderful fables, some were very good, now we get a little history and lots of democrats.
I think the Google groups that i found when looking for the churchill info, were in the Dakota’s, more than likely the Rosebud Reservation area, they had some bad incidents with the churchill and cronies.
Somehow, I don’t think casinos will benefit many of the Indians, and have been sorry to see them springing up every place, we have one 40 miles away.
I have not kept up on how it has affected the area, as it is another world away from me.
Somewhat off topic, but I ran into Jamie Houghton last night, who was in charge of the search for the new Harvard president.
I asked him what he thought of the new woman president, and of course he said she was great. I suggested that maybe the search HAD to find a woman after the famous comments about women and science, and of course he denied it. They simply picked the best candidate.
He said Larry Summers was a very smart guy, and he wasn't sorry for having chosen him earlier, but unfortunately he had a loose lip (not his phrase) and it just didn't work out.
I don't know if he believed all that or not, but there we are, and there Harvard is, with a truly lousy president, but maybe the president that they deserve at this point. You can't fight city hall.
Reservations never had the capital to finance them, so we can pretty much guess who is behind it, capisce?.

Someone here posted an article by an Indian writer in a major tribal magazine that tore him apart.
