COMRADES of a hero Queen’s guard said last night he “died like a man” while saving them from a Taliban onslaught in the Afghan badlands.

Guardsman David Atherton, 25, leapt from cover to launch two Javelin anti-tank missiles into a machine gun nest and building.

But by doing so he exposed his position to other fanatical fighters, who shot him dead....

This man was the genuine article. A hero.

A hero indeed and a touching story. I hope the A-10 chewed up the bad guys in total. I imagine those 30mm rounds reek havoc on enemy flesh and psyche.
