Murtha/Pelosi blueprint for defeat
July 30, 2007
With Congress's August recess less than one week away, it should hardly come as a surprise that Rep. John Murtha, the chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, is readying more legislative mischief. Mr. Murtha, a close political ally of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has made it clear that plans to use the $459.6 billion defense appropriations bill, which comes to the floor this week, to short-circuit the current military campaign against jihadists in Iraq and shut down the prison at Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo).
Mr. Murtha plans to offer three amendments to the fiscal 2008 defense appropriations bill: One would set a 60-day timeline to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq (which will certainly help al Qaeda and the like in planning the Rwanda-ization of the country). A second Murtha amendment would implement the Pennsylvania Democrat's "slow-bleed" strategy for ensuring a U.S. military defeat by conditioning funds for the war upon the military meeting some unattainable standards for training and equipping the troops. Should the administrate violate the strictures in an effort to reinforce besieged American soldiers or prevent genocide, we have no doubt that if the Democrats are still in the majority that they will be holding oversight hearings and issuing subpoenas to U.S. military commanders and senior Pentagon officials, summoning them to testify about "why they broke the law" by sending these soldiers to the battlefield.
Mr. Murtha's third amendment would close the Guantanamo Bay facility. He hasn't said precisely what he wants to do with these terrorists, but his Democratic colleagues have weighed in, including Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia (who has been perhaps the most fervent congressional advocate of shutting down Gitmo).....

Why would he want to do this?
Because he believes it will ensure his re-election. I sure hope he's wrong, but voters have shown their absolute stupidity many times in the past, i.e. Kennedy, Kucinich, Clinton.
In Texas, we have Sheila Jackson Lee...and we too are proud of her presence in our Nation's Capitol.
From a previous post...this says it exactly.
Amen!! We are cursed with some of the worst politicians in the country. I am ashamed of the performance of the above mentioned jerks. Murtha is the only Marine I know that is an ex Marine, not a former Marine. That should say it all.

That’s what it comes down to, bray.
Liberal Dems are ensconced in mostly safe districts especially minority seats. They can blast, rant, rave and not fear voter retaliation. Only in Pub districts where Pub purists want to punish Bush will those seats be blasted into the Dem column. I fear that libertarian-indep. in an effort to punish Rinos will actually give Dems an even more veto proof Congress even if Rudy, Fred or Mitt win.

The recess can’t come soon enough! A whole month without those losers up in Washington may prove very helpful while Gen. Petraeus is busy over in Iraq! Time is on our side and Bush knows this - say what you will about his pr or handling, I think he’s stood so strong about fight the terrorists that this will be his defining Presidential legacy. No, he’s far from perfect, but I am so glad he’s been at the helm during such turbulant times.

Let's face it, Murtha would be a joke, if all we had to concern ourselves with were entitlement programs.
