Sen. Schumer: Supreme Court 'Out of Balance'
News Max ^ | July 31, 2007 | Evan Moore

The U.S. Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts is "the most conservative in memory," and the Senate should not confirm another nominee to the bench from President Bush "except in extraordinary circumstances," in the view of Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Addressing the fifth annual American Constitution Society convention Friday, Schumer said the Senate had been misled by the "charm of nominee Roberts and the erudition of nominee [Samuel] Alito."

"Our fears were more than justified from the ultra-conservative record of [those] two men," said Schumer, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Schumer's comments coincided with a new ABC News-Washington Post poll in which 31 percent of respondents said the Supreme Court was "too conservative" in its jurisprudential decision-making, an increase from 19 percent in a similar poll in 2005. Schumer citing a remark by Justice Stephen Breyer - who was appointed by President Clinton in 1994 - said, "It is not often in the law that so few have so quickly changed so much."

"In case after case, our most recently confirmed justices have appeared to jettison decisions recently authored by their immediate predecessors," the New York Democrat said.

"The decisions this term were especially cruel, advancing the traditional conservative preferences for the government over criminal defendants and the interests of business over consumers and employees," he said.

“Balance” to a leftist has always meant “left-controlled.”

Right, Chucky, we’re gonna balance the Supreme Court to make you happy, the same way you did to make us happy.

Once again, I must caution you all about Senator Schumer: The most dangerous place in the District of Columbia is the space between a TV camera and Mr. Schumer. Chuckie loves his face time with a TV lens.

Runner-up? Connie Chung. She was downright deadly if you got in the way.

“Balance? We don’t need no stinking balance!”

We now have 4 consevatives, 4 liberals and one moderate. I would like to know what the good Senators idea of balance is. My best guess is that it would be 9 liberals.

Well, Chuckie, it kinda tells me that 69% don't think the Court is too conservative. Perhaps you need a reality check.

Going after Chief Justice John Roberts while he’s in the hospital. Real classy.

If you want to get clubbed to death, try standing between Jesse Jackson and the camera.

Funny, I don’t seem to remember Chuckie squealing when the court was almost dominated by liberals and RINO’s. In my opinion, its makeup isn't all that conservative even now, though recent decisions are encouraging.

"the most conservative in memory,"

Thank G_d.! And the Republic may live a few more years longer because of him. Another run by a Democratic president like that last two, and the The Constitution will be only so much toilet paper..

Chuck Schumer - most dangerous member of Senate. Could he be in Al-Qaeda’s pocket?

Hard to take a man thats never held a real job as an adult seriously on any topic.

Schumer’s been a pol since age 23. He doesn’t have any real world experience, and as such is nothing but a political hack.

A third rate one at that.
