WASHINGTON — Former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld defended himself and took no personal responsibility Wednesday for the military's bungled response to Army Ranger Pat Tillman's friendly-fire death in Afghanistan.
Rumsfeld, in his first public appearance on Capitol Hill since President Bush replaced him with Robert Gates late last year, reiterated previous testimony to investigators that he didn't have early knowledge that Tillman was cut down by fellow Rangers, not by enemy militia, as was initially claimed.
He told a House committee hearing that he'd always impressed upon Pentagon underlings the importance of telling the truth.
"Early in my tenure as secretary of defense, I wrote a memo for the men and women of the Department of Defense," Rumsfeld told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. "You will note that principle number one — the very first — was: 'Do nothing that could raise questions about the credibility of DOD.' "
Rumsfeld gave the committee a copy of that memo.
Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., charged that unanswered questions surrounding Tillman's death reach into the highest ranks of the Pentagon and beyond.

But not including Democrat political hacks like Waxman.
These Democrats are such jerks!! Buffoons!! sheesh.
They will get nothing new, nothing important, nothing period that they don't already know. What a waste of time and air.
I sorta miss Rummy! ;)
Can Hunter just beat the crap out of Waxman and call it a day?
Rumsfeld can handle himself against the ball less wonders of Congress.
First sentence. It sure didnt take long for the biased words to kick in.
You are right, I’d better go turn it on and watch.......when Rummy gets going things get interesting. I’d love to see him take pot shots at Senators like he did at his pressers. A classy guy who takes no prisoners.
The wording is an implication that Rumsfeld does bear some personal responsibility and denys it. He'd have to be aware that it was friendly fire for the basis for the reporter's account to be credible. As it's Associated Press, such poor journalism doesn't surprise me.
Another example of media bias.
TV deprived - please, keep us updated.
Go, Rummy!!!!
agreed

There are only two relevant facts in this matter.
1. Pat Tillman stood upright in a firefight, and screamed ‘Stop shooting, its Pat F’in Tillman!’ at which point he was shot by friendly fire.
2. The Chain of Command made a series of stupid decisions regarding Tillman’s death, and should be punished accordingly.
Rumsfeld had nothing to do with it.
Mmmmm, BBQ and beer *drools*
Jeeeezzz...I would love to be able to “grill” Congress. I have a few questions I would like to ask ole Reid, Pelosi, Murtha...etc...
The stupid ghetto reps think they’re smarter than Rummy and are about to get their asses handed to them.
