The first report in the Dutch news – on the NOS.nl site – simply stated that the woman was of “Jugoslavische afkomst” – presumably meaning that she came from one of the former Yugoslav states. It did not specify which one at that point, hence I translated the word as “Yugoslavian.” I felt it was better to give readers an approximation at least of where the woman was from rather than no indication whatsoever. I imagine this was the Dutch news source’s motivation as well. Stories usually come out piece-wise, we don’t have every specific from the very beginning.
