Depends. What I've typically heard is, as is taught in Mexican schools, that 1/3rd of Mexico was stolen by the U.S. I always point out that it was Santa Ana's incompetance and brutality that cost them the territory. I can usually get agreement on what a scumbag Santa Ana is, but don't expect more.

There is also the perception among many that most Americans are racist against Mexicans.
