The moderators do a great job of holding up the standards that Jim has set for Free Republic. However, they need all of our help--in exercising our good judgment when posting and in hitting the abuse button when out of line comments are made.
We are not a politically correct site, however the posting guidelines need to be adhered to. The comments cited by O'Reilly are literally drops in the bucket of the millions of comments posted on FR and do not represent what FR is about. However, the better we take care of FR, the less chances we'll give people to pull stunts like O'Reilly did last night.
I want to thank everyone for the kind and supportive comments last night. It was not a 'fun' interview, but hopefully some good will come out of it.
I've seldom been on a thread where anyone who gets bashed but I have run across various anti gay comment in the past. Never saw one bashing blacks.
The trolls at Kos whined we are a hate site and I believe provided these links to Fox, you got ambushed.
I can tell you one thing, I can read posts for hours (I think I’m addicted) here on FR, but I can’t listen to O’Reilly for a complete show without him saying something I think is crass, and I turn him off.
As you say, we are not a politically correct forum. OTOH, 99.99% of all posts on FR do not contain the graphic rhetoric O’Reilly spoke of last night.
Where is the "I hate blacks" post????
The meaning of the "homosexuals are dogs" was twisted out of context.
O'Reilly blew it bigtime, and has enraged a heckuva lot of former viewers of his show. Big mistake.
I'd say that's a smoking gun against "The Factor", because the "I H@te B1@ck$"(/grin)accusation was probably the most inflammatory. You deserve a follow up interview to approach him with your findings, but I doubt it will ever happen. From now on we'll have to refer to "The O'rielly Factor" as a "hate show" the next time he has a guest who has ever had a remotely racist or controversial thing to say.
Wishing someone dead is tasteless.
No link for the "I hate Blacks" comment.
Gee, The Factor got only one of three and that's all it takes to make a "hate site"? I've heard worse on The Factor. I guess The Factor is a hate program.
I like both Free Republic and O'Reilly, I guess I'm just an across the board hater. ;^)
This is really pathetic of O'Reilly. I think he felt he had to do it, but the level of research for this assault is ridiculous.
You did greatr Kristinn..
I was shocked that O’Reilly might find posts like he named..
But O’Reilly knows better than to just throw out an accusation and not have proof...where were the posts..he had no trouble showing a video of part of FR ...
why didnt he had the offending words on video or a printout?
I was waiting to see them..crickets...
Harold Ford looked like Obama as usual...he’s still running for re-election for his senate seat, 2006
You did marvelously.
I would have exploded and done no service to my fellow FReepers. I would still be cursing today. ;-)
The question is, are we going to get a retraction on the comments that were not here or misquoted?
I posted on an earlier post from an article stajackson wrote to BOR. I felt from the beginning he had his nitwit producers come on FR and engage and bait freepers. Some of those producers could have written on FR what Bill spoke about. He is a worthless entertainer and the more freepers tune him out, the more his numbers will drop.
Of all of the comments he mentioned that was the most damning.
Thanks for keeping your cool during the interview.
I have lost any residual respect for O’Reilly. He’s as smarmy and as dishonest as Herr Olbermann.
m m m monster bump!
Standards? What standards. You have got to be kidding me. I post on here from time to time but I find a large number of people to be extremely hateful. Obscene comments that should never be made are made in almost every thread. There are a lot of people that post on Free Republic that are either sick in the head or post disgusting comments because they figure nobody will ever know who they are.
Sorry but Free Republic is full of disgusting comments. The mods may do a good job at keeping trolls out but they should don’t care what a lot of the regular posts say. IF Free Republic was the only view of the Republican party that I ever got then I would think Republicans were the most hate filled group out there.
It isn’t everyone, of course, but there are a large number of people on here that should keep their mouth shut most of the time. That will never happen though.
So pretty much 2 for 3 BOR took the quote out of context AND didn’t even use a direct quote.
The third hasn’t been found in the materials provided.
So 3 for 3 I call BOR a lier.
Thank you.
This forum gets a staggering volume of replies, far more than we mods can keep up with. When we dont immediately pull certain out-of-bounds items, it is often not (as people sometimes assume) that we approve of them, but simply that no one has told us of their existence.
1...a poorly stated comment which was in answer to something we can not evaluate? No excuse for the wording.
How many people read the entry and how many abuse buttons were pushed?
2...a statement taken out of context which changed the meaning. No one was offended enough to complain?
3...a statement which is a total fabrication.
Are these the statements about Free Republic which caused such a stir?
If this is the truth behind O’Reilly’s charges then I believe he has some other motive. I guess I believed that anyway!
Why FReeRepublic, and Why Now? I don’t understand this unless it is a preemptive strike against Conservative voters.
Over all, we are self policing.
first of all...I was taken aback by how good looking you are, so the interview wasn’t a whole waste.
I am surprised at BOR not getting the “dogs at the manger” comment having been a high school teacher and all that. Besides the fact that the comment he attributed to FR didn’t actually exist.
Earlier this evening, I received an anti-semitic comment in a response to one of my snarky posts. By the time I was able to deplore the anti-semitic comment, it had been removed by a moderator. That sort of speedy zotting of obviously inappropriate content is by far the norm on FR, and for O’Reilly to even suggest otherwise is a gross distortion of the facts.
