France, Libya sign agreement on nuclear reactor

France and Libya have signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of a Libyan nuclear reactor for water desalination, a senior French official says.

The announcement comes shortly after Libyan Foreign Minister Abdel Rahman Shalgham said the two countries were to sign a military-industrial accord and an agreement on civilian nuclear energy.

The deal also comes as French President Nicolas Sarkozy flew in for talks with Libyan leader Moamer Khaddafi, a day after Tripoli's release of six foreign medics in a move that cleared the way for trade deals with the oil-rich state.

Mr Sarkozy has touted his visit of less than 24 hours as a "political trip" to help Libya's reintegration into the international community after decades of sanctions and isolation.

Pariah state today, pristine state tomorrow...

France, leading the way to absolution... one despot at a time.

Say, how many weeks will it be before we find that Mohamarhair is enriching nuclear waste...

I give it about thirty...

I think this is exactly the right solution to impoverished N African refugees in Europe. Put them to work at home.

Libya has more oil than it can extract, and does not need a nuclear power plant to make water from the sea. It needs a nuclear reactor to get nukes when it wants them, 10 years from now. France as usual runs around the world looking for the worst possible people and sells them the most dangerous possible items. Even under a right wing president. And idiots like you applaud.

Take the nuclear applications out of it and I wouldn’t mind at all.

During the cold war we severely limited movement of populations between Russia and here. We watch all diplomats and considered everyone to be a spy.

Today we allow tens of thousands to come here from terrorist states and don’t bother to check them out at all.

If we lose our freedom/nation etcetera, we won’t be able to blame anyone but ourselves.
