Whenever we were faced by Democrat obstructionism in the Republican ruled Senate, “hotheads” suggested changing the rules to give the Republicans the edge. This occurred most notably on the judges. No, Senator Lott and others counseled, some day, if we are in the minority, you will be grateful that we preserved the great minority traditions of this hallowed body. To which, we, the hotheads, replied, do you think for one minute that the Democrats will not change the rules to their advantage if that is what their agenda requires?
It pains me to say, “We told you so.”
