Yes, Jeb, that's great, but...

Somebody snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at the very last moment. Somebody let Terri die when she could easily have been saved. Somebody separated faith from politics. Who was that, Jeb? Please speak louder. I didn't hear well enough how Catholic you are in practice. Tell us all the story of Pontius Pilate and how it fit with the Easter sacrifice of Terri.

...................................

ATLANTA, Georgia, August 9, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Republican governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, brother of President George Bush, described his "faith journey" to audiences at a Catholic conference this summer, emphasizing that faith and politics should not be separated.

The devout Catholic and pro-life politician received a standing ovation from a crowd of families, children, priests and young people before he even began his speech at the 11th Youth and Family Encounter conference at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The event was sponsored this July by the international Catholic lay movement Regnum Christi.

He underlined the fact that leaders should not separate their faith from their political careers. "I don't know how one can do that," he said. "As governor I didn't do that. I tried not to."

"I don't think you can separate your personal faith from your public actions, and I don't think you need to. I think transparent, openly expressing your faith is a good thing."

Jeb Bush was closely involved in the case of Terri Schiavo in 2004 as governor of Florida. Putting his own words into practice, Bush signed Terri's law - a move approved by the State legislature - that would remove her from her husband's authority and thereby protect her life. Bush also appealed the Supreme Court to change its mind when it struck down the law (see http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2004/oct/04100602.html).

Liberal fantasies...I'm not quite sure I want to know.

I am not sure I would even want to know the PG-13 fantasies of the left, not even a cozy night with Dr. Kervorkian or the cuddly side of O.J. but this fantasy rerun hits me in the face regularly. They love to dream of us "social conservatives" or whatever, us who believe in good and God as failed. It would top the hottest dreams of a wild weekend romp with Paris Hilton and Cindy Sheehan.

So to keep this thought like a trophy of a serial killer, they cherish the thought that America loved the killing an innocent like Terri and the concept that anyone might try to save that life is, well, "evil".

I would post even more, but will have another cup of coffee instead. Here is a part of that fantasy:

Republicans have also whipped up a storm of opposition among middle-of-the-road voters on social issues. The religious right's opposition to abortion has always been an electoral liability: only 30% of voters favour overturning Roe v Wade. But in the past few years social conservatives tested people's patience still further over a federal marriage amendment and Terri Schiavo. Fully 72% of Republican voters opposed the Republicans' attempt to use the might of the federal government to keep the severely brain-damaged woman alive. The voters got their revenge in the 2006 mid-term elections—“bloody Tuesday” in the words of Troy Newman, the president of Operation Rescue, an anti-abortion group. Rick Santorum, once the religious right's most prominent champion in the Senate, barely scraped 41% of the vote in Pennsylvania. Ken Blackwell, social conservatism's most prominent black champion, went down to a humiliating defeat in the race for the Ohio governorship. Social conservatives lost ballot initiatives on everything from abortion to gay marriage.

The American right... Under the weather

Terri’s case was so horrific that it attracted support form select liberals - I do not know how many, but certainly a number of them. Yet Jeb Bush only wrong his hands, claiming falsely that there was nothing he could do.
