Rafsanjani: US attack on Iran means committing suicide
IRNA ^ | 8/5/07 | IRNA

Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Saturday that if the US dares to launch any military attack on Iran it would be regarded as a suicide for that country.

In an exclusive interview with Al-Arabiya TV channels on Friday night, he said the issue is regarded as a psychological warfare and there is no doubt that the role of UNSC would be highlighted but there are lots of concerns as to what extent such measures would bear fruits.

"We are now facing various threats and challenges but we believe that the past experiences should be used in order to dissuade enemies from targeting us. We have always proved that we are capable enough to thwart plots hatched by the enemies," he said.

Some believe that the US current problems in Iraq and Afghanistan could be a source of concern for Iran, the reporter asked.

Based on historical experiences, when bullying powers are trapped in a quagmire they might take illogical measures to save themselves, Rafsanjani said.

"I believe that the US and UK and their allies are now experiencing a very tough situation in Iraq and Afghanistan and seek a way out of the crisis," he said.

There is no doubt that such suicidal measures would create problems for both sides but they would be the final loser with their measure leaving devastating consequences for the whole region, he said.

Some Arabs have questioned that in case the US targets Iran's nuclear facilities, what would be Iran's response, asked the reporter.

There is no doubt that Iran has various options and plans on the table to give a crushing response to such an attack, he said.

On existing hurdles to expansion of ties between Iran and Arab countries, he said it would be to the benefit of Arab countries to have much closer ties with Iran.

On rifts between Shiites and Sunnis, he said there are no ideological differences between the two groups but it is the enemies of Islam that try to create rifts among them.

"As a united Ummah, we support Palestinians who are not Shiite but are our Sunni brothers and the same applies to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Afghanistan," he said.

"We regard Zionist regime as an illogical one and believe that they have occupied the Palestinian territory and won support of western powers particularly the US," he pointed out.

"On annihilation of the Zionist regime, he said the issue is related to the Palestinians because they are the ones who are fighting with them," he said.

On Iraq developments, he said "We believe that the country should be united and independent and all majority and minority groups should cooperate with their democratic government in running the country's affairs.

On Iran's alleged interference in Iraq, he said Iran never interferes in the country's internal affairs because it would be to the benefit of the region that Iraq remains united.

"We believe that those who carry out suicide attacks are not Iraqi and are insurgents coming from foreign countries with an aim of fanning the flames of sectarian conflicts," he said.

"Iran has voiced readiness to help restore security to Iraq after withdrawal of US troops and this was the main topic of discussion in the second round of Iran-US talks," he underlined.

Restoration of stability and security to the region can be realized only when the US really helps resolve the issue and avoids imposing its views and policies, he said.

"If the US admits to its failure in attaining its regional goals, it might lead to continuation of talks," he said.

All people in the region call for restoration of peace and stability, underlined Rafsanjani.

Probably not ideological differences, but religious differences like the 12th Imam seem to leap out. Why that would lead one group to blow up the other's vegetable markets and mosques is a mystery.

Well, we have a bunch of Dimwitted Democrats who actually believe this. Of course the Nazis, North Koreans, and Japanese said the same to us in the past.

Fortunately we do have a classic answer for these Fascists of the past and present:

"NUTS!"

And as for the dimwit Dems who have fallen for the Iranian and leftist propaganda:

" TRAITORS!"

Parking lot time! Don't have to worry about nation building, and all the islamofacists will come to know, that to push America over the brink is a really bad idea.

I just saw "300" for the first time last night, it only strengthened my own opinion of Iran(Persia).

It’s easy for this Rasfanjani yahoo to say this, because he knows full well the U.S. is not going to attack Iran.

The only difference between the Shia and Sunni regarding the Mahdi are the means by which he appears... once he’s here, they all agree on things he will do.

These are various quotes i collected over the years:

Commandant of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, said on state television. “God willing, the 21st century will see the defeat of the U.S. and the Zionists, and the victory of freedom-seeking nations of the world. The final goal of the [1979] revolution is to create global Islamic rule and a regime of law to be led by the Imam Mahdi”.

The [Iranians] President’s chief strategist, Hassan Abbassi, has come up with a war plan based on the premise that “Britain is the mother of all evils” – the evils being America, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, the Gulf states and even Canada, all of whom are the malign progeny of the British Empire. “We have a strategy drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization,” says Mr Abbassi. “There are 29 sensitive sites in the U.S. and in the West. We have already spied on these sites and we know how we are going to attack them… Once we have defeated the Anglo-Saxons the rest will run for cover.”

The IRGC chief warned that Iran was seeing through “critical days” and “fate-determining years”. He described the purpose of Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution as the “Salvation of Muslims” from the hands of the “oppressive U.S. and Israel”.

Sine their Mahdi doesn’t seem to be coming to them, I suggest we send them to join him.
