I have always wondered where those who majored in such esoteric areas as — Gender Studies, Gay and Lesbian Studies, Africa-American Studies evantually end up after graduation.

Is there a study that tracks the career of such graduates ?

This isn't exactly a study, but I think it's a pretty accurate analysis.

They usually end up in government.

Me too. I still remember when my kids came home from their AP calculus class and told us about their teacher's son who had been admitted to Harvard - and majored in Women's Studies. Often wondered how one made a living with such a degree?

Non-profit and state/fed jobs, is my educated (based on experience at a former job) guess, so they can change policy toward their Socialistic ideals, attend conferences all over the place, and hold self-congratulatory awards ceremonies.

They work for the government, or for "nonprofits" getting money from their friends in the government.

Government, lobbying, non-profits where they can suck on an endowment made ages ago by someone productive - and oh, teaching. Millions of teachers peddling the same bilge to the next lot.

We need to zero all subsidies to higher education yesterday...

Graduate school, majoring in something that will get them a job, or Law School.

Many end up working in academia such as admissions offices or outreach coordination or event marketing.

I wouldn't be surprised if many end up as "Diversity Consultants" brought in for corporate sensitivity training seminars and the like. Many of these departments are subsidized by corporate foundations. Aside from ideological affinity, subsidizing the diversity industry provides street cred among leftists who will direct their ire at less enlightened corporations.

As for the article, it downplays the worth of studying the best that has been said or thought. It is as dismissive of American culture as the radicals who now control the university curriculum. Just like the radicals, the writer is enabling the erosion of those non-market habits and values on which society rests.

Conservatives can't complain about leftist bias in the university, and then whine about how useless the traditional liberal arts education is. The left is only in power because conservatives abandoned the "useless" field of ideas for the practical arts and discouraged any worthy young students who aspire to retake the field.
