The First Amendment prevents the government from restricting freedom of speech or of the press.
It is for We, the People to insist on standards of responsibility and veracity among the media.

I know, I know. But that is only the theory. What do you think of the “Fairness Doctrine”, hate crime legislature, etc. The Founders left a beautiful legacy to not-so-beautiful politicians. What do you think is going to happen when people like Hillory or Schumer or Kennedy take over? The leftists will try to steamroll the First Amendment like the communists did in East Europe after WWII.
The First Amendment is as good as the people who are willing to defend it.
