A Seattle mother of four was fatally stabbed early today despite a court protection order against her knife-wielding ex-husband.
The 33-year-old victim was stabbed nearly two dozen times while attending a birthday party about 1 a.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in the 9100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South.
The 39-year-old assailant burst into the hall, grabbed the victim and slashed her with a large knife, witnesses told police. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
A 32-year-old Kent man who was at the party pulled a hand gun and shot the suspect who later died at Harborview Medial Center.
Police spokeswoman Renee Witt said the party guest had a concealed-weapons permit. She said he likely won't face charges since he acted to prevent further harm.

Likely won't face charges??? This guy should be given an award, not a court date.
“despite a court protection order”
Yeah, that piece of paper did real well in protecting her. Not.
She should have had a gun of her own.
Nah, that would have made him so mad he might have taken it from her and shot her with it.
I agree. But unfortunately, in SC he'd be given a court date. VFW posts serve alcohol, and our state laws don't allow anyone to carry anywhere alcohol is served.
So much for the restraining order. I’ve never yet heard of a piece of paper that could stop a bullet or a knife.
Served? Or sold? Presumably if you have dinner guests over to your home and open a bottle of wine, they didn’t just become criminals because they happened to be carrying. I would think private clubs would be exempt.
CCW Ping
That’s the Liberal way of doing things; whatever makes you feel good doesn’t matter if it works or not.
Protection orders are governments way of excusing themselves from a person getting harmed.
In Washington state, only places which must post a "No Minors" sign are prohibited for CCW. Restaurants which serve drinks with meals are not off limits. If the restaurant has a lounge, that place would be posted and is off limits.
The bar area of the VFW is subject to exactly the same Washington Liquor Control Board rules and regulations as a bar or lounge. The rest of the building would not be restricted for CCW.
Typically, the FOE, Elks, and VFW halls around here have dance halls which they rent for parties that are separate fro the lounge.
Clearly, it is time for the government to ban knives.

Along Martin Luther King: Travels on Black America’s Main Street (Hardcover)
by Jonathan Tilove
Stretches of many King streets have a ragged, wasted quality to them. The comedian Chris Rock famously advised, If a friend calls you on the telephone and says theyre lost on Martin Luther King Boulevard and they want to know what they should do, the best response is Run!
In Texas all places that serve alcohol must post a sign, but it just says that you can't carry unless you are licensed, but that would be the case if it was a dairy queen. The signs are something of a holdover from the pre CHL days, modified to accommodate the CHL laws. I think non CHL holders get a an enhanced penalty for carrying where booze is sold, but as I said, even if they just sold milk, carry sans CHL would be a no-no
Don't give them any ideas. In some jurisdictions in England, they do just that. In fact big knives, as this one may have been, are banned in many states. Ironically the Bowie Knife is banned in Texas. (for carry that is, you can still own one).
“likely”
not even probably?

The legal and law enforcement systems cannot protect you. They can only document the commission of a crime, apprehend the criminal, give him a trial, and sentence him. All actions taken after the fact.
It is your responsibility to protect yourself.
