and the lifelong benefits the government pays to veterans.

I assume they are speaking of "retirees" from the military, not just veterans. Veterans do not get many benefits. Some college money, VA hospital care (right, sure, good luck there), and maybe VA disability. But, no pension. Only the retirees get that. The benefits they have stripped from us that we were told we were going to get add up to way more than we have now. Little by little, they are now taking more and more away from us, or making us pay for what we were told, "give us 20 years and you get this, this and this." Now that we are retired, it is "oh, well, those were just promises. We don't keep promises in the US government, unless there are millions of votes in it for us." /sarcasm still on.

I wonder how much of this figure includes the “reconstruction” - which is partially due, not to our bombing and military action, but to Saddam’s ignoring infrastructure needs (like power plants & water treatment)?

I personally believe that the cost for Iraq’s reconstruction should come from IRAQ, not US taxpayers. Iraq is sitting on trillions of dollars in oil - this should go towards their own rebuilding and reconstruction - and to repay the American taxpayers for their rebuilding.

And no, I am not suggesting they pay us back for the military campaign against terror -

How many trillions has the “War on Poverty” cost us?
How many lives wasted into subsistence living?
How many kids born without a father in the house?

What’s the cost? Oh, it doesn’t matter, because the intentions looked good, even if some weren’t, and social programs make liberals FEEEEEEEEL good.
