Neocons aiding '08 Republicans

By Ralph Z. Hallow August 6, 2007

Most Americans disapprove of the Iraq war and of exporting democracy by force, yet neoconservative proponents of those policies advise the leading Republican presidential hopefuls.

"There is an overwhelming presence of neoconservatives and absence of traditional conservatives that I don't know what to make of," said Richard V. Allen, former Reagan White House national security adviser.

I guess Allen missed THE NEW GALLUP POLL, a preview of which was released today:
-

LATEST POLL SHOWS GROWING SUPPORT FOR IRAQ WAR POLICY

USA TODAY’s Susan Page reports that President Bush is making some headway in arguing that the increase in U.S. troops in Iraq is showing military progress.

In the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, taken Friday through Sunday, the proportion of those who said the additional troops are “making the situation better” rose to 31% from 22% a month ago. Those who said it was “not making much difference” dropped to 41% from 51%.

About the same number said it was making things worse: 24% now, 25% a month ago.

The truth and the good news is getting out about our mission in Iraq, despite the attempts by Pelosi, Reid and the MSM to create an atmosphere of defeat.

Mr. Romney's foreign policy is still "evolving," said former Minnesota Rep. Vin Weber, a Romney adviser.

Vin Weber, in a moment of masterful understatement.

I’m still not exactly sure what a “neocon” is.

I’m a “neo-con” according to “paleo-cons.” My ancestors (as I am) were far more conservative than self-described “paleo-cons,” and they lobbied to keep the flood of “paleo-cons” from coming into our nation during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Paleo-cons are accurately enough depicted in the historically incorrect and nearly cartoon-ish movie, “Gangs of New York.” The flick is a hoot.

A “neo-con” is Buchananite-speak (fascist language) and lefty-speak (commie language) for a Jewish person or anyone who doesn’t hate Jewish people.

Is Richard Allen one of those “Beltway Insiders”, who say that anyone who thinks that Bush is pursuing a useful policy inside Iraq, is a neocon?

Well, I guess that rules James Baker out.

The President’s poll numbers for handling the Iraq war are about 22 percent. The Congress even lower. So it it’s a wash

I’m sure that Buchanan and his friends prefer the anti-defense policies of James Baker over those of Duncan Hunter.

Is there something wrong with NeoCon. Everyone from William F. Buckley, George Will, Robert Novak and Buchanan on the right use the term. Lefties from Chris Matthews, Keith Olberman Tim Russert, to George Stephanopoulos use it on a regular basis. If you watch any of the cable gab fest shows in the evening, I hear the term everyday

Quite the puzzle, it is then, as to just why anyone in the Bush administration is heeding the ME policy recommendations of any group headed up by such a man.

Buchanan didn’t invent the word did he?

Now I remember old Bill Clinton in his Fox media meltdown blame the ‘neo-cons’ for preventing him from fighting terrorists.

Oh, just so it is clear I am not a Buchanan fan, when he thought it was presidential material to start carrying a pitch fork as symbolic tough guy image, he became a whatever for me. Although I do have more respect for Buchanan than old Bill Clinton.

I am not a "neocon" and I not a "paleo". I am best described as a CONSERVATIVE Conservative.

Traditional Republicans. Limited Constitutional Government, States Rights, Free Enterprise, and a Non Interventionist Foreign Policy.

NeoCons, Using our Military to export Democracy. Live with the welfare state. Teddy Roosevelt, FDR and Truman are their favorite Presidents

There's a fair amount of transnationalism in the NeoCon mix, too.

“The President’s poll numbers for handling the Iraq war are about 22 percent. The Congress even lower. So it it’s a wash”

FYI:

RASMUSSEN
“A separate survey of Likely Voters found that 37% give the President Good or Excellent marks for his performance in office. Fourteen percent (15%) say fair and 47% poor.”

Bottom line: In an ‘excellent, good, fair and poor’ polling schemata, 50% of those who rated the President ‘fair’ would also ‘approve’ of his job performance . . . For this reason, we can add at least ‘7 points’ to the 37% excellent/good rating to determine the President’s actual JOB APPROVAL rating among likely voters: 44%, which is within the margin of error from the average Rasmussen rating for most of the 2004 election cycle — a cycle that saw the President garner 51% of the popular vote (which hadn’t happened since 1988) and earn more votes than any other presidential candidate in history (64 million)!

BATTLEGROUND POLL
Likely Voters
July 2007

PERSONAL APPROVAL
Q: Whether you approve or disapprove of the way George W Bush is handling his job as President, what is your impression of George W. Bush as a person? Do you approve or disapprove of him?

57% approve (37% STRONGLY)
35% disapprove (only 29% strongly)
[MSM: Not only do a majority of the American people LIKE President Bush, a ‘STRONG’ PLURALITY LIKE HIM A LOT!]

FAVORABILITY (which today is the same as the traditional job approval rating):
43% (23% strong) George W Bush
37% (14% strong) Nancy Pelosi
18% (06% strong) Harry Reid
-

“22 percent” . . . Which poll and what was the composition of the sample? . . . It’s ALWAYS the sample stupid!!
