VA-Albemarle: Latinos worried by other counties' measures
The Daily Progress ^ | 2007-07-31 | Jeremy Borden

As two Northern Virginia counties begin to look at what local government can do to battle illegal immigration, some in Charlottesville and Albemarle County's Latino community say they are fearful those measures could be implemented here. They spoke of widespread anxiety caused by the fear of deportation or racial profiling by local officials.

Appointed and elected officials say, however, that the Charlottesville and Albemarle area is a very different place than Northern Virginia and would have little appetite for such reform.

"I don't understand," said Trinidad Torres, sitting in his truck near his mobile home off Berkmar Drive in Albemarle. "Who's going to wash the dishes? Who's going to work in the vineyards? Agriculture will be lost."

Bovine excrement. When I worked in Charlottesville two years ago, I met folks commuting from as far away from Waynesboro and Staunton to work minimum-wage jobs. In fact, two of my co-workers (I worked for a bank) commuted from Farmville and Louisa; the former is well over an hour away.

Not to mention that the University of Virginia is the primary economic driver in Central Virginia...how many illegals are working for U.Va.?

"If it happens [in Prince William], it could happen here," [Gonzalez] said."

You betcha.

"It's not immigration, it's invasion," [Keith] Drake said of the national issue.

Keith Drake is the chairman of the Albemarle County Republican Committee.

Who the hell do you think did those jobs for 100 years before you showed up, moron?

The writer of this story, (probably a lib) violated the "Fair Play Rule" estalishblished by AiT.

For every ILLEGAL ALIEN interviewed in any news article, as to their thoughts, hopes, desires, fears, troubles, whatever, the reporter needs to interview and print the comments of an equal amount of LEGAL IMMIGRANTS as to their opinions about illegal immigrants demanding rights. This is MORE than "fair" enough.

I have yet to see many articles in the USA written with the AiT "Fair Play Rule" kept in mind.

Amen.

What I really want to see is every illegal in the country flocking to the areas filled with good Democrats who are horrified, HORRIFIED by the unfairness of enforcing the laws that these fine people break. Sanctuaries would become crowded indeed.

You gave me a great idea (I hope).

Remember the Red/Blue map showing all 3,000 US counties and how they each went for President in 2004?

Someone can perhaps kindly post here.

It will take research on all 3,000 U.S. counties (what a task!) but find out how many are now officially on the books either with resolutions, or lack of enforcement as "Sanctuary Counties!, we could make those "Green".

Then, fill in the other counties who either have official enforcement resolutions or are doing something about it de-facto, cooperating with I.C.E. on 287(g) deportation training, cut off of social services to illegals, etc. And those should be "Red".

What a nice map it will be. Red and Green, the colors of the Mexican flag. Red for "take it elsewhere" and Green for "bienvenidos".

The map will (probably/hopefully) grow in Red, as counties move to rid themselves of illegals and other counties like Arlington, Montgomery, Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Fe, run to embrace illegals as "sanctuary".

Once the map is completed, it could be put in several different languages, and spread around the illegal communities. They will be motivated to leave even more decent American commmunities and head straight for the libs strongholds for their milk and cookies.

Love your answer. Many people would be surprised to learn that some of those illegals are not being paid minimum wage. They are earning more than that. Whether they pay taxes, I don’t know.

Oh, this is so much BS!

What's really pathetic is to see los illegales come through court. They pathetically present an "international driver's license" for which they paid serious money so as to avoid getting caught at the DMV. They're fined for driving without a license, fined the next time, jailed the next time. And, at least in the past, if we report them to los migras they just ignore us and them.

If an illega is paid 1 dollar over minimum wage, but underthe table, the owner still saves a bundle of money.

How about an illegal being paid 40,000 a year for sheet rocking. A story in the Houston Chron was done about this guy.
