As a Mom of an active military veteran, do I have to thank Romeney’s son for his “service?” < /sarcasm>

Yes, but after saying that they are adults he fell into the liberal trap by trying to provide an answer on their behalf.

For many of the elites, service to the country is something others do.

Hillary isn’t in favor of the surge, so it doesn’t apply. The point is that politicians would be slower to (perhaps stubbornly) support military action if they had a child in the military.

I agree with you. I neither like or dislike him but this reply was dreadful.

I am not a Mitt fan by any stretch of the imagination but i’ll stand with him on this one.

He should have asked the questioner if he/she served in the military.

The only answer is, "We have a volunteer military; no one is in it who didn't sign up on their own accord. It follows that not being a veteran is not a political disability - so what is the point of the question?"

I don’t get it. What is Romney supposed to do — order his adult sons to enlist in the military?

The meat of the matter is that Romney equates "helping him to win the presidency" as equivalent to serving the country in the military. I don't happen to believe that there is ANY comparison, whatsoever. It sounds very conceited to me.

BTW, I have a grandson who is in the military now, and a son who served two hitches in the army. They both enlisted, proudly. I wonder though, if they would have considered the opportunity to ride around in a motor home attending rallies instead of basic training!

Your opinion, please 2ndDivisinoVet?

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, also saluted a uniformed soldier in the crowd

If so that is wrong on Romney's part. He has no right to render a salute, not till he's "been-there-done-that", and even then, only in uniform and only when customary.

When they show kerry "reporting for duty" at the democritter convention and when they show klintoon saluting as Governor of Arkansas I want to puke.

It’s not really about Mitt (or Hillary or Obama). It’s about their “draft age” kids. The person asking Mitt the question thinks that a survey of parents of soldiers should be taken before engaging in military attacks on countries, and that the decision to attack should go forward after some specified plurality approves of the measure.

As a veteran, i’ll disagree. I have no problem with anyone saluting our military men. I wish more people would.

Does the MSM know there is no draft?
Maybe they feel that all decisions about military engagement should be made by former military people?

You have definately hit one out of the park with that statement. The man is gutless as well as his sons.
Go Duncan Hunter.

For many of the elites, service to the country is something others do.

Service to the country is not limited to military service. You may be able to say a lot of things, but you can't criticize Mitt Romney or his father for their service to their country.

Mitt served as Governor of Massachusetts from 2003-2007. His father, George, served as Governor of Michigan from 1963-1969 and U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1969-1973.
