But that parliament was not the direct predecessor of the parliament of the Dominion of Canada, which was the confederation of three colonies: the Provinces of Canada(which was divided into Canada East and Canada West), Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Sorry this is just a pet peeve of mine. What we call Canada today was not simply the pre-Confederation Province of Canada, but rather all the colonies of British North America(Canada, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, British Columbia, Manitoba and Newfoundland).

The United Kingdom only granted responsible government to Canada in 1848. Before that, Canadian governments answered directly to London - not to the people.
