But it is gorgeous.

California is heaven, but, except for our Freeper friends, it is populated by the spawn of Satan!

Brilliant response.

This has been the big failure by the Pro Troops people and the Republicans. We keep letting the anti Iraq types demagouge this issue. They continually move the goal post on Iraq. We achieve one thing they complain about and they immedeatly start finding something else to complain about.

You can see this in how the new spin line it to attack “lack of political progress” now. Before they were always attacking the lack of security. Now that that handled, they want to reframe the debate to avoid admiting they were wrong.

The simple fact is there can be NO political or economic progress as long as the security situtation is in doubt. For 2 reasons.

First you get no political progress. This has been the terrorists goal, significantly aided by the PC media’s coverage, to keep the Iraqis fractionalized and fighting each other. The terroirst can feed off that.

Look at Leabanon. With everyone broken into feuding ethnic gangs, the Terrorists were the biggest, best funded gang and could bully the others. They want to do the same thing in Iraq. A strong centeral Iraq Govt would be able to control the terrorists. Therefore the terrorists tried to provoke an Iraqi civil war to keep the political process polerized.

Next, economic progress is depended on both security and political progress. People are not going to invest and grow businesses, and thus employ people, if they feel the Govt might violently change or the terrorists will just blow it up.

In any chaos, capital takes a bunker mentality. Hunker down, hide your wealth, ride out the storm as best you can.

The solution is what EC said, QUIT trying to defend or explain Iraq and simply go on the attack. Demand that the complainers actually offer some constructive ideas instead of just whining about everything. We have to nail down the goal posts on Iraq instead of letting them continually move them every time we start getting close to scoring.

That was one of my major dislikes of Clinton. He wouldn’t govern, just constantly campaign

Total mega dittos! Brilliant post.

And what Sen. Moonbeam fails to realize is that he just went completely against what gays say about their abnormal behavior.

It is also complete nonsense from both a military and a historical point of view. What he attributes to the Spartans is actually a slander made by it's enemies about the Sacred Band of Thebes.

It also irrelevant. The supposed interpersonal relationships claimed to have been true in a society where single combat between groups of individual warriors with muscle power weapons was the norm has no relevance to modern combat operations.

I cannot think of anything more corrosive to discipline and mission focus then to interject sexual tensions and relationship problem into a unit. You want the team focused on the mission, not fantasying about getting it on in their foxhole tonight or mad because person A was talking to person B and person C is now jealous...or any of the my rid messes we humans manage to make of our personal relationships.

To misquote a freeper from another thread.

Man Law #1 Don't fruit the beer

Man Law #2 No chicks (or gays) in combat.

Don’t ask her to cook vegetables, though!

Oh yeah, I visited England this spring for the 1st time. Had a home cooked meal prepared by my brother's landlord one Sunday. The Yorkies were good (Yorkshire pudding) but the vegetables were all boiled to complete death.

I agree. I can respect some one who said “Well as much as I agree with the President on this issue, I disagree because,...”

I cannot respect those elements in the Republican party who sound just like the foaming at the mouth with rage moonbat Left when the President name comes up.

It is a serious mistake for any Republican canidate to attack the President. Disagree with him? fine. Attack him? no.

Oh yeah, Mitt is a charming rouge. I have heard him on the radio and he is quite good at wooing the ladys.

Just not sure if that makes him the best choice to be President.

To: Phsstpok; Alas Babylon!; shrinkermd; MNJohnnie; Bernard; maica; Carolinamom; altura; saveliberty; ..

Good morning, all.

It was a fairly quite day last Sunday and my guess is that will be the case today as well. It’s summer. It’s hot. Attention is focused on Hurricane Dean.

The one bright spot may be the unfairly demonized Karl Rove.

At any rate, here is what caught my attention on Sunday, August 12, 2007.

10. Laverne weighed in with her feelings about Tim Russert (who gets very low ratings from everyone...see, we can agree on some things) at #7.

9. saveliberty shared some thoughts on Hillary! that I enjoyed at #74.

8. altura kept the conversation going with musings and observations at #s 93, 116, 118, 124, 127, 129, 131, 145, 148, 151, 153 and 204.

7. Carolinamom laid out McCain’s situation succinctly and also predicts a southern resurgence at 99 and 110.

6. maica had some typically astute observations at #s 15, 20 and 75.

5. Bernard always manages to make me laugh which is so welcome when watching the leftist fest that Sunday mornings are. See #s 10, 95, 141 and 187.

4. MNJohnnie as usual has observations and contributions of note. See #s 263 and 265.

And now for the top 3 based on my carefully guarded secret criteria:

3. shrinkermd for the thought provoking and informing #112 (which received some validation from altura at #116). I liked the doc’s observations at #159 as well.

2. Phsstpok (pull out your Wile. E. Coyote sign) demonstrates again that he has his finger on the pulse of what is going on. See #s 17, 40, 89, 98 and 196.

1. Alas Babylon!, our much appreciated thread host (who has saved the sanity of many with it) was a veritable firecracker with his combination of humor and “deep thoughts.” And you know what ahm talkin’ about (hat tip to Hillary!). See 9, 25, 67, 109 and 200.

Thanks to all who participate. You all make my Sunday mornings.
